New York City Schools, Denver, Chicago, L.A., and on and on...

...close to 600 school districts have DROPPED OUT OF THE FEDERAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM as a result of the dietary restrictions imposed under Michelle O's battle against childhood obesity.

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_23954455/s ... ch-program

But, in all fairness, what do 600 school districts responsible for feeding millions of children know?

This story cracks me the fuck up.

Near Albany, Voorheesville Superintendent Teresa Thayer Snyder said her district lost $30,000 in the first three months.

The program didn't even make it through the school year after students repeatedly complained about the small portions and apples and pears went from the tray to the trash untouched.
Districts that leave the program are free to develop their own guidelines. Voorheesville's chef began serving such dishes as salad topped with flank steak and crumbled cheese, pasta with chicken and mushrooms, and a panini with chicken, red peppers and cheese.
I never ate school cafeteria once in high school. Sophomore year it was a dozen blueberry donuts from Excell Foods. Junior year it was onion rings and corn dogs from Safeway. Senior year it was a Belly Buster and tots or Whammy and fries from Zips or Lenny's Drive Ins.

I guess you can't legislate taste or nutrition. :ohno:

I ate at the cafeteria almost every day, and ate greasy pizza and soggy french fries daily and never gained a pound. Of course, we'd throw frisbee or football after lunch for the remainder of lunch and then I'd be off to cross country or track practice after school if not playing pick up basketball or football after school.

I've talked with a number of people about what's happening with seemingly increased obesity, cancer, diabetes, etc. in our kids and general population. It most probably points to either environmental factors, lower activity, or something in the food supply itself (I'm talking to you Monsanto) with HFCS or GMO's.

She has good intentions but there's a better way. A few counties in South Carolina are paid their cafeteria workers to attend a "culinary" boot camp over the summer to learn how to cook meals that kids will love with healthy ingredients. My father-in-law was a chef instructor and the biggest hit was quinoa mac & cheese. That was over the summer. As I hear it now from friends who have kids in school, the newer menu is well received. You can feed children a healthy meal at school but don't forget something very important...these are children! Don't waste tax dollars when you can essentially cook healthy meals and the kids are none the wiser.

Genetically modified wheat has done more damage to our bodies then you could ever imagine.

Only thing I remember about public school lunches in NJ when I bought(grades K-5) was that it was 25cents and milk was 5cents and chocolate milk was 6cents.
School lunches were pretty good in Colorado(grades5-7).
I didn't eat the slop they served in Maryland in 8th grade.

I went to catholic high school, they didn't have hot lunches, other than shit under hot lamps at the snack bar.

I can't, nor do I want to, imagine what is be served under federal nutition regulations.

I remember that nasty, greasy square pizza from the few years I was in public school.

Yeah...my grade school pizza was the same...except the lunchlady always put WAY TOO MUCH oregano in the sauce. Maybe to mask the other off flavors. Brown bagged from middle school to freshman h.s., had a car after that...started leaving campus for lunch.

Like you said, it's a noble cause, but not well thought out. In h.s., student athletes, or for that matter any student who participates in extra curricular activities should have the option to purchase an added calories meal. I recall during wrestling season, after two hours practice in the hot-room, I kept fruit and soda in my car to recover. There were some kids not so lucky (from poor, single parent families) who walked home.

Glad you acknowledge the noble cause, T. :notworthy:

Lieutenant Cat is a 14 y/o basketball star at his school. He brought up the new school lunches the other day. Said he likes the "healthier" choices and has learned a lot about proper nutrition and exercise and such as is being taught in the classes, too. He insists now on "good, balanced meals" at home. He's eating salads and veggies now, without Mama Cat and I having to beat him over the head with it. We've been validated!

Touchdown, Michelle!

As such, it is, indeed, a noble cause because, as illustrated, it is getting KIDS to talk about such things and not simply go over the fat and sugar cliff we tumbled over so blindly by just accepting what is thrown out there for meals. Critical thinking: one of the highest goals of our education system, lest we all end up Conks.

GObama!!!!

(And, again, how something so wholly positive can end up a bitterly negative plank on the Conk platform is a testament to their shortsightedness, backwardness and hate. SMMFH.....)

It is a parents responsibility to educate and feed their kid, not that fat idiot bitch.

I wouldnt even want my son talking to somebody that stupid let alone taking advice on food from her. She needs to take care of her kids and leave everyone else alone.

Someone should tell that fat bitch to butt the f out. Local Ed is a local and state matter. The Feds have no business telling the locals how to run their schools.

What a pile of fabricated crap!

Having knowledge of both his genetics and home environment, I'll wager he rolls smaller kid's lunch money, buys candy bars at the 7-11, then marks 'em up 200% and sells them to the fat kids who are forced to eat from the restricted calorie menu.

Now, back to reality...

"So, Mr. Oliver, it was your idea to replace pizza, burgers, fried chicken and sloppy joes with "kale medley", stir fry vegetables without the stir or fry or flavor, tofu mousaka and pasta-less vegan spaghetti?

Listen here, you british blowhard...You stay the fuck away from my food and stop replacing our menu with fairy food.
I expect greasy pepperoni pizza and butter-soaked rolls by tomorrow or I'll torch this prison.

And if I ever see tofu, kale, or the word "vegan" on the school menu again, I'll murder your wife and children...

...FIRST...

...THEN come after you! "
