"On every unauthoritative exercise of power by the legislature must the people rise in rebellion or their silence be construed into a surrender of that power to them? If so, how many rebellions should we have had already?"

--Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, Query 12, 1782
Pretty applicable right now I would say

Ironic coming from a President who exceeded his Constitutional authority to purchase Louisiana and establish a FEDERAL government over the territories with military governments...

BUC-CLUC don't think before he spouts, TC. Now, someone like TMan does. Same bullshit, but there is something behind it.

Don't use me to validate your delusion, Cap'n. BucDad's spot on. I was a member of the Federalist Society for many years and still receive their newsletter.

You can spit up Jefferson-sin all you want, but his inspirational vision of a sustainable democratic government was unequalled.

Jacksonian...and damn proud. Aside from the Injin's, his politics are what's needed. Less Gov't, Pay off the Debt.

i used to really dislike jackson both for the trail of tears, and for destroying the bank of the united states... but he totally redeems himself in one way... during the nullification crisis he promised to hang John C. Calhoun - the rat bastard from the tallest tree in Charleston should South Carolina enter in to rebellion.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? John C. Calhoun championed the same rights Washington and the leaders of the Revolution did. They each felt the colonies should be autonomous. Are you suggesting that our revolutionary leaders should've be hung from the tallest tree in the major city of thier state?

As to the national bank, Jackson felt It concentrated the nation's financial strength in a single institution and exposed the government to control by foreign interests. It served to make the rich richer, exercised too much control over members of Congress and favored northeastern states over southern and western states.

That was tried - the Articles of Conferation, which were a miserable failure.

I find myself somewhat Jacksonian as well. Of course, the ToT was horrible, but I am like Mark and agree the Bank of the US was bad, and I hold him up for killing it. Though, I feel most likely we'll have another one soon enough.
