i used to really dislike jackson both for the trail of tears, and for destroying the bank of the united states... but he totally redeems himself in one way... during the nullification crisis he promised to hang John C. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? John C. Calhoun championed the same rights Washington and the leaders of the Revolution did. They each felt the colonies should be autonomous. Are you suggesting that our revolutionary leaders should've be hung from the tallest tree in the major city of thier state?

As to the national bank, Jackson felt It concentrated the nation's financial strength in a single institution and exposed the government to control by foreign interests. It served to make the rich richer, exercised too much control over members of Congress and favored northeastern states over southern and western states.

That was tried - the Articles of Conferation, which were a miserable failure.

I find myself somewhat Jacksonian as well. Of course, the ToT was horrible, but I am like Mark and agree the Bank of the US was bad, and I hold him up for killing it. Though, I feel most likely we'll have another one soon enough.
