Pope calls for new global environmental authority

In a leaked document. Apparently the Vatican isn't happy about the leak..

"Pope Francis will this week call for changes in lifestyles and energy consumption to avert the “unprecedented destruction of the ecosystem” before the end of this century, according to a leaked draft of a papal encyclical. In a document released by an Italian magazine on Monday, the pontiff will warn that failure to act would have “grave consequences for all of us”.

Francis also called for a new global political authority tasked with “tackling … the reduction of pollution and the development of poor countries and regions”...."

He asserts "...rich nations are destroying the poor nations..."

...ignores the medical, technological and engineering benefits those "rich nations" provide, often for free, to the "poor" developing nations.

The Pope is out of his league.

you mean like all the "free" stuff we provide the poor in this country, yet for some reason the vast majority of them remain poor even after 50+ years of providing free "stuff"?

Have you guys noticed the pope is finally doing just about everything I've been advocating?

It's almost like I'm running the church.

Z, what kind of world do you want your grandchildren to have? Thought so. You're a typical conk who only thinks of himself.

Good for you, King Troll!' :thumb:

You finally came to your senses and now understand the importance of ending abortion and reinforcing the importance of the patriarchal family.

You two remind me of this guy:
RANCHO SANTA FE – Drought or no drought, Steve Yuhas resents the idea that it is somehow shameful to be a water hog. If you can pay for it, he argues, you should get your water.

People “should not be forced to live on property with brown lawns, golf on brown courses or apologize for wanting their gardens to be beautiful,” Yuhas fumed recently on social media. “We pay significant property taxes based on where we live,” he added in an interview. “And no, we’re not all equal when it comes to water.”

Yuhas lives in the ultra-wealthy enclave of Rancho Santa Fe, a bucolic San Diego County hamlet of ranches, gated communities and country clubs that guzzles five times more water per capita than the statewide average. In April, after Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown called for a 25 percent reduction in water use, consumption in Rancho Santa Fe went up by 9 percent.

But a moment of truth is at hand for Yuhas and his neighbors, and all of California will be watching: On July 1, for the first time in its 92-year history, Rancho Santa Fe will be subject to water rationing.

So Social Security isn't an entitlement? (And that's not even the use of the word I was suggesting)

Webster would like to have a word.

Entitlement - noun en·ti·tle·ment \-ˈtī-təl-mənt\

1. the feeling or belief that you deserve to be given something.

I believe kalm is in the camp that all money belongs to the government and whatever we earn is given to us because of the government's generosity and benevolence. :coffee:

So if I pay into SS it must not be an entitlement according to your initial and gloriously dumb statement.

A sense of entitlement only applies to the poor!

Maybe you want to try again???
