In a way, Obama IS responsible for the record DOW. It's a matter of choosing one of two equal length roads to the destination.
Road 1: Grow the economy and allow interest rates to normalize.
Road 2: Not grow the economy and force interest rates to remain at zero. Thereby allowing companies to buy back shares and provide the financial illusion that their earnings growth comes from increased profits rather than a decreased denominator (# of outstanding shares).

Obama chose Road 2. The economy is so fragile right now. With interest rates at zero, we are operating without a safety net, and it's been a very long time. Time is running out.
