That's the sentence for James Holmes. With no chance for parole, we'll subsidize his life from here on it. For what?

A Colorado judge formally sentenced James Eagan Holmes to multiple life terms plus thousands of years in prison for the Aurora movie theater massacre that killed 12 and wounded 70.
Holmes, a 27-year-old former grad student, received one life term for each person he killed, plus 3,318 years for the attempted murders of those he wounded and for rigging his apartment with explosives. He is not eligible for parole.
"It is the court's intention that the defendant never set foot in free society again," Judge Carlos A. Samour Jr. said after imposing the sentence Wednesday. "If there was ever a case that warranted a maximum sentence, this is the case. The defendant does not deserve any sympathy.

Maybe one of our resident lawyers can explain why he hand down sentences that no person could ever possible serve? 12 Life sentences? Why can't we say, Life in Prison with no chance for parole?

These sentences are ridiculous. They can only make the guy stay in jail for the rest of his life (which he would get for one murder) so why not make his stay especially difficult for the remaining concurrent 11 life terms? Make him scrub toilets every day, eat dry dog food every meal, service every Bubba on the cellblock....you know, something to differentiate his sentence from a guy who only offed one person.

Or just kill him. Let his family bury or cremate the remains and never speak his name again.

Hypothetically, what if a lawyer was able to get him off on 11 of the murders, then he still has 1 life sentence to server. Having 12 life sentences and the thousands of years added on, reduces the chance of him ever getting out of jail. Maybe one of the legal beagles has a better reason.

Kid was nuts. He's going to spend is life in prison. Who cares how many sentences he gets. He's never getting out. Some would say it's a fate worse than death.

We don't have to deal with that. His lawyers said they will not appeal. It's done.

That's a good point. Some also say, he gets to live A life while his victims were robbed of theirs.

Uhhh...he can always change his mind and represent himself after he gets more free education and passes the in-prison law school exam.
And, I am sure there will be some dumb Liberal chick that says he was an angel that was just misunderstood, and she will wage some PR was to get him out of jail.

They also lose the 2nd, 4th, 15th. Twelve life sentences should get you into a bit more trouble than your run of the mill single murderer.

I'd rather be put to death than live the rest of my life in prison. Let him rot there.
