Debate Recap - Nice!

I actually watched a chunk of it last night and this review is great! Informative and entertaining. :notworthy:
82 minutes. After a commercial break and lots of bluster for Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Bush and Trump get into a fight about foreign policy. Trump says he is happy to let Putin fight ISIS in Syria. Bush says, “That’s like a board game. That’s like playing Monopoly or something.” He means Risk. He also means that Trump’s idea is bad.

86 minutes. More Putin bluster. This guy really gets under everyone’s skin. Not unlike Teddy Roosevelt’s bullet. Fiorina boasts of meeting Putin, like she does just about every debate. Rubio calls him a “gangster.” Another commercial break.

100 minutes. We’re back to talk about banks. But no one really wants to answer the questions. Bush is asked if he would bailout the banks after another financial crises. He says, “We should not have another financial crisis.” Who would disagree? Carson is asked if a bank like J.P. Morgan should be broken up. “We should have policies that do not allow them to enlarge themselves at at the expense of smaller entities,” he says, which sounds like regulation. Except he follows by saying, “What we’ve done now is let the creep of regulation turn into a stampede of regulations.” So it’s not really clear.

I didn't look to see who the author was and now that I've googled him, I'm still not familiar other than he looks like a cable news talking head.

I'll have to check and see if he wrote something similar about the Democratic debate. I hope he has, and it will still be funny.

I'm post-partisan like that. :coffee:

Kasich and Fiorina were interrupting all night. They should be married to each other.

Trump seemed like he overdosed on NyQuil.

Cruz and Rubio did pretty well. Cuban vs. Cuban....

Here's a thought: when the "stop" buzzer goes off, cut the mikes and go on to the next question.

 You're no less partisan than I Kalm. If you would have left it at "entertaining", that would be been fine, the "informative" part is issue. 8-)

I think for the most part the candidate who was on the clock did a pretty good job wrapping up within a reasonable amount of time of the buzzer. Everyone else's mic however should probably be disabled.

I wish Bush would just drop out.

Kasich, Rubio and O'Malley too.

Kasich is showing very poor body language over the last couple of debates as a result of frustration. He is blowing it.

Christie did well in the undercard last night.

I was just watching a clip of the focus group that fox had. All of them thought that Kasich should drop out and be replaced on the main stage by Christie.

29 minutes. Carson gets a chance to bash the media. He does. Applause.
50 minutes. After another break, Carson talks about the fairness of taxing everyone at the same rate, getting rid of the mortgage interest deducation and the charitable deduction. Paul basically agrees. Then Cruz extends Fiorina’s page war to a war on words. “There are more words in the IRS code than there are in the Bible,” Cruz says. This is not enough to protect him from the Texas curse. “Five major agencies that I would eliminate,” he says, tempting the ghost of Rick Perry. “The IRS, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce, and HUD.” Oops.
The last Texan in the White House was a moron...looks like there's a pattern here.
70 minutes. Trump joins the war on pages. “It’s 5,600 pages long,” he says of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a pending trade deal. “Nobody ever read it.” This would be a good challenge for fact-checker. Find the person who read it all.
Trump makes a good point.

:? Why? He is one of the few candidates with an actual shot of destroying Hildabeast.

Nothing special in this debate. Nothing really entertaining either. I got the feeling all these folks (well those in the top 4 or 5 of the polls) are just going to hold on to see how the voting goes down in a few months. No one really made an effort to make a name for themselves (well except for the weak attmepts by Kasich and Fiorina).

You are probably right. But every time I see Rubio it reminds me of another guy that started as a state legislator and become a junior senator before running for president. And we all know how well that has turned out....

Meh. You have to look at it in context and if anything Obama has shown that “experience” don’t matter. Obama was the best candidate (with a shot of winning the election) in ’08. He was “more experienced” than Hildabeast at that time and the conks had the great insight to throw up McCain (not that it would have mattered following the Bush years).

Fast forward to today. The “most experienced” conk candidates are governors, none of whom got any traction and the lone candidate with executive experience with any semblance of traction has a last name of “Bush”. The next group of “experienced” candidates are Congressmen, all of which are on par with Obama’s ’08 executive experience (seriously, a few years in Congress compared to a few decades in Congress makes no difference IMO). Lastly you have a group of outsiders who have zero experience with the political system and whose lone “executive experience” is in the private sector where “opposition” can be dealt with in a swift manner (You’re FIRED!!!). Unsurprisingly the last group is getting the most traction.

Now I agree it’s all a bunch of shitty candidates (both in ’08 and ’16) and I don’t like it any better than you do, but clearly “experience” is (unfortunately) the last thing that matters to the voters. We’re all fucked, so I’ll vote along racial lines so Team Brown can have one of our own in the WH. :coffee:

It also helps that the Team Brown candidate is intelligent, articulate, and scares the shit out of the donks. 8-)

Just the ones that wanted to see a professional conk politician. :coffee:

Which kind of raises the point that if a blowhard like Trump, a wack job like Fiorina, and a milquetoast like Carson are kicking the shit out of the conk pros do we really want conks negotiating with Putin?

I think not. :ohno:
