Eid al-Adha

Our county school board just approved closing schools next September 12th for Eid al-Adha (Muslim holy day). They already have off for Christmas as well as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (both of which were in September this year). I don't have a problem being fair to all religions, but this could really open the flood gates. To give you an idea, we have more Mormons in my county than Muslims. So where does this stop? Just looking at September from this past year...

9/1/2015 First Installation of Adi Granth
9/7/2015 Labor Day
9/14/2015 Rosh Hashanah
9/23/2015 Eid ul-Adha: Feast of the Sacrifice (3 days)
9/23/2015 Yom Kippur
9/28/2015 Ashla Puja (Thai Theravada)
9/28/2015 Sukkot (7 days)
9/28/2015 Ulambama Day (Mahayana, Theravada)

Home schooling is looking better and better.

Or just start school in October and make them go until 8/1.

Get rid of all religious holidays - period - end of debate
have one Monday a month off - for example the 1st Monday every month

its the only reasonable answer

Reasonable, but not practical.

Freedom FROM religion will become a popular notion for Christians as they become a minority.

89, I listen to WTOP about 1.5 hrs a day and so I have heard some of this issue.

What happened to the proposal of three roving religious holidays to be selected by the individual? I thought that was on the table?

They explained on WTOP that the original reason for doing Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur was that 40% of the seats were empty on those days in the early 70s when they first started giving days off for Jews. But that was when MontCo was a fairly new suburb and it was mostly Christian and Jews.

I'm guessing that with all the riff raff that has moved into Montgomery County now that there is rarely going to be a 40% vacancy beside Christmas. That place is loaded with all the non-deodorant wearing religions now (Hindu, Jew, Muslin, Buddhist, etc plus Mexicans, Haitians, Nigerians, etc).

We do get July 24th off in Utah, it is Pioneer day or something of the sorts. Well, by we, I mean federal, state and bank employees. I am working today and have to on those odd holidays as well.

My company has a world-wide presence. Next year the Friday after Thanksgiving is no longer a holiday and becomes an extra personal day to take as we please. Change is going to happen.

No the only reasonable, and simple answer, is to give time off for the 10 federal holidays, none other. Period.

the population of this nation is changing...
and they don't like one religion being favored by the Federal Government over others
and they're actually interpreting the constitution amendments correctly

Yes - gosh darnit - they are...
The only reasonable solution is complete freedom FROM religious preference at the Federal Level

Is it called Christmas break? Easter break? It used to be but I thought it changed to winter/spring break. Meh. My kids don't get Jewish holidays off.

State / municipal rights will be trampled!!!

WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION DOES IT LIST "CREATION OF HOLIDAYS" AS A RESPONSIBLILTY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?????

FEDERAL HOLIDAYS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND SHOULD BE LEFT TO THE STATES!!
