The criticism about the lack of diversity in nominations continued for a second year after the Academy Award nods were announced Thursday in Hollywood.
The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite was revived from one year ago when critics and social media commentators noticed that not one person of color was nominated for the coveted gold trophy in top categories such as Best Actor or Actress and Best Supporting Actor or Actress.
Since 1939, when Hattie McDaniel became the first black woman to win an Oscar for "Gone with the Wind," there have been about 50 blacks nominated in the four major acting categories. For Asian and Hispanic actors, the numbers are even fewer -- less than a dozen each.
"The central issue is until you get people of color directing, writing and starring, the Oscars are going to be so white because that’s who the studios and even the indies are putting on screen," Adams said. "It’s the fountain that is tainted, not the Oscars."
Why aren't the Asians and Hispanics raising hell? Why isn't Hollywood, land of the progressives, doing more to walk the walk on equity and diversity? Should we just divy up the nominations demographically, so that Hispanics get 17% of the noms, blacks get 13%, and native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders get .17%? Why don't we just restructure the NBA and NFL so they're more "fair" based on population, not necessarily talent?
Jeez, some years you simply aren't the best of the lot, others you are.

I'm shocked that someone actor Kevin Hart and director Tyler Perry weren't nominated, considering the quality work they put out every year.

Do The Right Thing actually sucked when I saw it again 20 years later. I was probably stoned the first time I saw and liked it.

This whole thing is really funny when you think about it.
Hollywood assures us there are objective standards of evaluating actors and movies and we can't give awards to movies for the philistines that love explosions more than "nuance" or "exploring the human condition".
Yet when these standards are applied to movie-making and awards you get movie audiences and a lineup of award winners that are as white as snow. So much for tolerant, inclusive, enlightened Hollywood.

The way it reads they seem to want (dare I say it) a quota of people of color as nominees every year. If you made a really good movie, or were a great director, etc. in that given year you deserve it. They shouldn't have to go digging for some movie that barely made Sundance that was screened by 20 people in order to find a person to fill that spot when in a given year there are more deserving actors/directors/screenwriters. It's once again political correctness run amok.

I saw the movie "Glory".
There was some decent African American actors in that movie.
But they sucked at fighting in the battle at the end.

But doesn't the fact that there are no black nominees make Hollywood less politically correct (at least for this year)?

I guess my comment is more directed at those that are upset, not the Hollywood establishment.
If I were black and was nominated, it would make me question whether I was a placeholder or if I was actually good enough to deserve the nomination.

Yes. But blind voting produced it. Look for the nominations be reviewed in the years to come.

Al Sharpton always wanted an Oscar for "The Tawana Brawley Story."

Well, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Morris Chestnut and Danny Glover didn't make much of note in 2015. Better luck next year.

You didn't see the movie? You should have done like DBack: sneak in the back door and then go down in front.
