Not to worry my man, due to the tremendous sucker catch coming in right now from the "Armed Conk Malheur NWR" thread, the sheer volume is likely to diminish prices for all fresh caught fish.

That must be why you can't swing a dead cat on the east coast without hitting some place that sells it.

Salmon is one of my favorite foods in the world. Sliced, smoked, poached, broiled, on bagels, on crackers, in sushi. Any way I can get it. I eat it once or twice a week.

This is pretty much my lunch when I'm in my home town of Seattle...

What gets me is that to me salmon just flat tastes bad. I've written before about how I've tried it a number of times. Each time I'm thinking OK maybe last time the people just didn't fix it right then I taste it and it's awful. Why somebody would pay ANYTHING to eat that is beyond me. I guess if you were starving and had to eat something OK. But to go out of your way and pay a high price when you can eat something else? I just don't get it.

And as explained before, you've never had quality salmon. 95% of the time it's over cooked, and most of the time you get it in stores or restaurants it's not been handled properly. Quality salmon is like most other fishes, it's similar to a good steak if cared for properly.

Salmon is very tasty for those who are truly fish lovers. True fish lovers love the taste of fish, like trout. Salmon is the Crown Prince of fish loved by fish lovers.

The other category of fish eaters are those who really don't care for the taste of fish, they like bottom fish like halibut, ling cod, Pacific cod, king crab, rock fish, and in fresh water walleye, perch and crappies.

I profess to be among the latter, not the former. And the distinctions are just as stratified as those who prefer dark over white meat and vice versa when ordering fried chicken..

I knew you were going to post. You're not quite as militant in your salmon hate as before.

Quality halibut and tuna are also very similar to great steak.

I will grant you that salmon has a more "fishy" taste. Good observation.

It also strikes me as a similar comparison to game. When someone says "gamey" it usually means stronger flavor...which I like.

"Gamey" in my book means "improperly bled."

I have no way of knowing for sure if that's true but the very first time I had salmon was at a function in Washington State where everybody was saying it was going to be great because the local Native Americans were going to be cooking it, etc. People who like salmon appeared to think it was great. Same thing happened in Washington State again later. Not the prepared by Native Americans part but the part where people who like salmon were saying it was great.

Salmon is also very high in fat (marbled like good steak)

And I highly recommend blow-torching Salmon

Perhaps. I'm talking about people who think domestic duck is gamey. Or lamb is gamey. Grouse is gamey compared to chicken etc. people who like bland food.

My old lady is gamey, when compared to tapioca pudding..

Butt generally less so than a beached carp.

They're not gamey, they're greasy.

Or maybe he has had quality salmon, but he's just a fvcking space alien (which according to Occam's Razor is probably true)

My wife and mother love salmon...LOVE IT.

I enjoy eating it when it is paired with another strong flavor (Mrs. Cluck made an outrageously delicious mustard/pepper sauce for the trout Lil' Cluck and I caught), but I'd rather have a good steak.

No, they're talking about the flavor, Maynard.

Grease is tasty.
