I'm asking of TRUMP really believed it was possible when he started, or did it start out as some publicity stunt (as I first thought) that grew a life of its own over time....

I'm still not convinced this is going to happen. If Rubio can actually win a state, there's still the chance of a brokered convention, in which case there's a good chance that the nominee will be off the board, namely Ryan. I could live with that....

I think he always wanted the job. But he took a calculated gamble on the campaign strategy. Probably figured, if it works, great. If it doesn't, he'll boost or, at least maintain, his name/brand recognition.

In the very small chance of a brokered convention, to not have Trump be the nominee would mean that the leader in delegates (Trump), and probably the leader by a wide margin, would be snubbed. That would automatically lose the vast majority of his backers from the resulting nominee and the resulting nominee would be guaranteed to lose the general election. Guess the GOP will be doing the super delegate thing from now on like the donks.

It would only work if the GOP went into the Convention without a majority candidate...which isn't looking so hot right now. But it's certainly at least a POSSIBILITY given that half or more of the states are still out there. Complicating that, though, are that most if not all of the remaining states are winner-take-all, giving the scenario (not to mention any chances Cruz/Rubio/Carson/Kasich of pulling a miracle) not much wiggle room at all.

As with the Titanic, it is The Donald, ILO the order to increase speed, that will drive the GOP to the cold depths of Davy Jones' Locker, and who knows what will become of the ruins.

Happening right before our eyes, can't say there was no warning signs in the last couple election cycles. The GOPs idea of the "big tent" made room for some real nut bags, and this is the blow back.

The GOP hates Trump, its part of the reason I made him win the the next presidency.

The Dems are doing their typical divide and conquer schtick. Hillary is JUST LIKE YOU.

I think he's surprised himself, but his ego is way too large to actually grasp the consequences of his continued charade. But now it's worse in that he thinks he can win.

The more I think of it though, it might not be bad for the establishment with Trump as Presidency. Obama really flexed his powers over the legislative branch and they had no answers. But here would be Congress' golden opportunity to take back power from an extremely inexperienced executive branch. Trump is currently fighting off a middling group of politicians, but were he to ascend to the Presidency, people like Paul Ryan will know exactly how to play the game and run circles around him. His Presidency would certainly shift power back to Congress; they'll get what they want more often than not.

I'd like to believe that Trump would surround himself with skilled/clever advisers that are going to actually run this country.

Running for President isn't exactly fun. Especially since Trump's base is the bottom of the barrel... full of people he has avoided for most of his life. I'm sure he'd rather be relaxing on a beach somewhere tropical instead of shaking hands and holding babies in Bumfuck, Alabama.

But, I also bet his ego has never been stroked as thoroughly as it is now. Chris Christie at your side like a well trained puppy. The most powerful media, liberal and conservative, rooting against you. But, you keep winning.

I see what you are saying. But it isn't like Obama was tremendously experienced when he got elected.
