In honor of Earth day, a reminder about how a reckless ban on DDT lead to countless deaths from malaria.

And a reminder that whackjob environmentalist's fears of icky mutant foods have caused an increase in malnutrition and starvation.

I am going to go buy 2 more TDIs from today. I will also buy several cows. I am going to release one of my saved up cans of R12 freon around my coal burning stove this evening if anyone wants to join me. It is a really pretty sight.

I'm personally OK with trying not to fuck up the earth any faster than we already are, and by golly, if we can even slow that process down a little, then all the better for my offspring.
Come at me bro.

I don't care how many chinks commit suicide making my toilet paper.
Just keeping it real.

I hear you. Less mouth-breathers, more fertilizer for the soil.
My wife isn't really into me shitting in the yard though...

I don't get the hate on Earth Day? Do you WANT to live in a shitty world? I seriously do not get the hatred. Some guy on Rush this afternoon said we shouldn't care because the Earth uses natural disasters to kill humans. What a stupid fucking statement. Yeah, let's not be stewards of the Earth because we may be in an area where the Earth may experience an event that would be devastating to our species.

When you gotta go, you gotta go. Even when you're in a public building with restrooms on every floor.

When I'm on my phone the title of the YouTube video doesn't show. I was expecting the muslin wench to blow herself up. Does that make me racist?

I don't like Earth day because it's the quintessential feel-good environmentalism.

I do think Earth Day is associated with the preservationist mentality. And by "preservationist" I mean the idea that the Earth can and should be "preserved" as is. As though there is some static ecosystem or set of ecosystems that is in "balance." I also think it's associated with a belief that things would be "better" without human presence.

No dipshit, it's associated with a belief that human presence should go on.

It's not. That's not what it's about.

Yes. Yes it is. It's exactly what it's about. It's about saving the planet we live on to hand off to our future generations.
Why do people like you have such a selfish view of the world that you feel that you are more important than future generations? I personally would like to keep this whole life-on-earth deal going as long as we can.

No Hen it is not. You can believe me or not but my opinion comes from being in the environmental and biological sciences field for 33 years now. Watching people around me. It's not about what's best for OUR species. There is a preservationist mentality. Like for instance if it comes down to what is best for our species vs. having the Delta Smelt going extinct there's going to be pressure to go in favor of preventing the Delta Smelt going extinct.
They will try to cast it as "what's best for that is best for us." But that's not really what's going on.

John, I agree with 93 on this one. It's about the future of life (including human life) on earth. Yes there are environmental wack-a-doodles out there who have extremist views just like there are waco-a-doodles posting thread after thread of anti-Trump rants. We are the most dominant and intelligent species on this planet and we have no one else to blame but ourselves if we screw it up.

I'm not going to keep going in circles with you.
Why anyone wouldn't want to be a good steward of the earth is just beyond logical to me.
You can keep writing your 500 word posts, but it won't change my opinion.
