BYU Rapes a Student

Holy victim blaming, batman! What a bunch of weirdos.
Madi Barney sat sobbing in the Provo, Utah, police department. It had been four days since the Brigham Young University sophomore had been raped in her off-campus apartment.
She was scared – terrified – that the officials at her strict, Mormon university would find out and punish her.
Nonsense, the officers told her, they’ll never know, and they won’t hurt you. But a month or so later, there she was with her attorney in Brigham Young University’s Title IX office – a place where rape victims are supposed to get help – and offered an ultimatum by a university official.
Barney was told the school “had received a police report in which ‘A) it looks like you’ve been raped and B) it also looks like you may have violated the honor code’”, she recounted, and that “I was going to be forwarded to the honor code office unless I let them investigate me. I said absolutely not.”
The university has told Barney that she cannot register for future classes. She is no longer welcome at the institution her father attended before her, along with aunts and uncles and two cousins, a university that devout families consider the Harvard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I'm glad to see they are showing compassion. Fuckers.
The wife and I drove through Belmont Abbey College this morning and I made a mention of schools like Liberty and BYU with their odd/out of date rules (such as no hand holding at Bob Jones). She asked why in the hell would someone in the 21st Century go to a school like that...I wish I had an answer.

Fundamental Religion is passed on through intense brain washing
It is very difficult - as children's brains develop - for them to overcome the onslaught
This is why you see individuals with enough intelligence to become doctors blow themselves up
or people as smart as some of the posters on here have so much difficulty letting go
There is absolutely just as much evidence that "God" is a demented homicidal mass murderer
as there is that god is loving and nurturing
and yet, here we are...

I saw a TV report on this. It was also sympathetic to the young lady but it included a piece of information I didn't note int he linked article. The TV article said she took a hallucinogenic drug then was raped while she was under its influence. Obviously, she violated the honor code.
She was not "punished" because she was raped. She was "punished" because she DID violate the honor code she agreed to adhere to as a condition of admission. Or I guess if you go by the article she was punished because she knew she'd violated the honor code so she didn't want to answer questions about it. But the TV report did say she was raped after taking a hallucinogen.
Look. if I were young and choosing a university I would not go to BYU because I would never agree to that honor code as a condition. But she knew the rules. This thing of casting this as the school punishing rape victims for being raped is nonsense.
Know what else? Chances are that if she hadn't violated the honor code she wouldn't have been raped. Sorry, but the truth is the truth.

So here's a Statemet:
An online petition urging BYU to grant rape survivors immunity from honor code violations related to the attacks has gathered more than 110,000 signatures.
So you agree to an honor code. You violate your agreement and it results in you getting raped. Then you want the institution to ignore the fact that you violated that honor code.
This "blame the victim" stuff has got to stop. You know what? Women do actually have some responsibility for their actions and the decisions they make and the consequences of those decisions.
That does not mean that the rapist shouldn't be prosecuted. But this kind of thing where women want to be exempted from an honor code system they agreed to because them violating their agreement led to them being raped is ridiculous.

Wait...she was raped because she violated the honor code?
I think you said that twice in there.
What in the fuck does the honor code have to do with getting raped?
Is this the "cause and effect" you keep yammering about?

Goddammit kalm,
Why are you making me side with JSO here.
Taking drugs = violation of honor code
So because she was raped she gets a free pass on the drug thing?
Sounds like more of that "special favors status", I mean "equality" that feminists keep campaigning for.
Saying she was "being expelled from BYU for being raped" is the sort of clickbaity, Buzzfeed bullshit that makes a mockery out of her situation.

well look at it this way- from my libertarian mind my own business and you mind yours point of view-
I dont care about what schools do or what their quirks are
people kill and rape and steal- its what we do. We will no more stop those than we will stop death. So I dont care when it happens. there's no gain from me getting outraged about it because the only effect is my own blood pressure goes up
now, if it is MY school I may choose to care- that is as it should be... Im minding MY business
also if it is MY daughter who is raped, when I pull out the perp's intestines with a fork through his belly button that is also me minding my own business

Ummmm....JSO is saying she got raped for violating the honor code. Neither the article title nor the article itself claims she was kicked out for being raped. The student did say that BYU's treatment of her has been almost as bad as the rape itself, which is what I based the thread title on. In other words.....
No one, including the victims is challenging BYU's RIGHTS to have and enforce their honor code. They are not suing the university or claiming school officials shouldn't be able to do that. They are courageously applying pressure to the school by raising awareness.
Perhaps you think BYU should have "special favors status" here and be above criticism for their assbagguery? Not that you, CID, and Baldy ever have strong opinions about libtards on here. No, you're libertarians who mind your own business, dammit...amirite!

It says it right there in plain Engrish. She was scared she would be punished for being raped. That was the first two sentences of the 'article'....nevermind all the "victim blaming" and "victim shaming" references throughout the article.

Fuck the Mormans, they're a cult just like Global Warming Alarmists, Scientologists, and Progressives. I mind my own business, but it's so much fun throwing the hypocrisy of the left in their faces and watching people like you twist yourself into a pretzel trying to explain it all away...nuance and all that.
