It dawned on me today as I stiffed the panhandlers outside my building in DC yet again...

Why do I stiff them every single day?

It's not because I'm cheap.

It's not because they sometimes curse at me in a crazed fit of mental illness.

It's not because they're black.

It's not because they smell like the floor of the men's room at Sheetz.

It's because I don't carry money. Who does? I pay for goods and services through the day with three things: my credit card, my SmarTrip (DC Metro) card, and my smartphone at Starbucks via their app.

There's no way I'm letting a bum touch anything I own, so that rules out transfers via credit card or SmarTrip. But frankly, I'd have no problem gifting a few dimes via the Starbucks phone app, which is optically read by a code scanner.

This is the ticket. Get these bastards code readers instead of Obama phones.





PS. It is because I am cheap. I wouldn't even let them scan a nickel if they were provided readers.

Nope, but Alpha's right, it is Bush's fault.

The president has no direct impact on the program, and one could hardly call these devices "Obama Phones," as the e-mail author does. This specific program, SafeLink, started under President George Bush.

I've learned that listening to music while walking the .3 miles from the parking lot to the office helps me ignore/avoid them.

Obama phones do exist. I saw the tents along my old bus route through The Wire.

I don't care enough to look into it. From what I saw, they were all old flip phones.
