That made me think of Charles Whitman. You know, the Austin tower sniper shooting thing (see http://www.history.com/this-day-in-hist ... y-of-texas). Here's a pic of the rifle he was using:
A Remington 700. In reading about the incident there was an interesting twist: People didn't realize what was going on.
That's Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman, but you there's a reference link to a newspaper account. That's what happened. He first hit Claire Wilson, an 18-year-old anthropology student who was eight-months pregnant. Whitman shot Wilson in the abdomen, killing her unborn child. The shot dropped Wilson to the concrete on the mall as her fiancé, 18-year-old Thomas Eckman, asked her, "What's wrong?"[67] Whitman shot and killed Eckman as he tried to help Wilson.
Had a Whitman type who can shoot been using something like a Remington 700 one precise shot at a time instead of blasting out with an "assault" rifle there actually may have been more police killed because there would have been some time to figure out what was going on.
