Brainwashed Republican talks about brainwashing...
There is perhaps no one on earth more deeply brainwashed than Senator James Inhofe
http://thehill.com/policy/energy-enviro ... ate-change
I don't completely disagree with his assessment but coming from a man that thinks Noah built the Ark and that the earth is 6,000 years old... going into great detail about the brainwashing of children is pretty rich
If he could only point that laser sharp mind of his
at his own childhood and re-examine himself with equally critical thinking

He makes a valid point worth a serious debate - and frankly I kinda agree with where he's going
I do not completely agree with his take on the situation but I get it
and so it makes it worth examining

The "brainwashed Republican" thing really takes me back to 1968 or so, when Senator George Romney (Mitt's dad) said he was "brainwashed on Vietnam." That ended his Presidential hopes.

I do think that if kids are to be properly educated with respect to the scientific method they would understand that there are limitations to climate science. I don't think just adopting the position that "it's reportedly the scientific consensus so therefore I accept it" is critical thinking.

Isnt is a form of liberalism to ALWAYS question the world as we know it. It intriguing that the left is going the traditional, "the world is flat, don't question it" thinking sans Catholicism prior to 1300, when it comes to global warming...i mean climate change.Brock Landers wrote:Denialism and critical thinking obviously go hand-in-handJohnStOnge wrote:I do think that if kids are to be properly educated with respect to the scientific method they would understand that there are limitations to climate science. Re: Brainwashed Republican talks about brainwashing...
Yes, in a way they do. And the reason is that if you are familiar with the scientific method you know there are limits to the conclusions of climate science. And you know that it's one of those areas where nothing can be inferred with the highest level of confidence. And you know that there is reason to be skeptical about the perception with respect to the precision with which the future climate can be predicted.Brock Landers wrote:Denialism and critical thinking obviously go hand-in-handJohnStOnge wrote:I do think that if kids are to be properly educated with respect to the scientific method they would understand that there are limitations to climate science. Again: Taking the position that "I believe it because the climate scientists say so" is not critical thinking. I guess I can understand it if you're somebody who is not involved in science. It's kind of like if you know nothing about cars you believe the mechanic. But if you have some understanding of the scientific method you know there's a limit to the certainty associated with climate science. It's inherent to the nature of the field.

The more you know about science the less worried you are about climate change..Brock Landers wrote:Denialism and critical thinking obviously go hand-in-handJohnStOnge wrote:I do think that if kids are to be properly educated with respect to the scientific method they would understand that there are limitations to climate science. Hogue stressed that her story is not unique. About 1 in 3 American have abortions by the age of 45, according to Hogue, who said the "majority are mothers just trying to take care of the families they already have."
I suppose that's a misprint? Since 1 in 2 Americans are male....
