Former Rep. Patrick Kennedy: Stop calling Trump 'crazy'

Patrick Kennedy, a mental health advocate and former Rhode Island congressman, penned an op-ed Monday calling on Americans to stop calling Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump "crazy" because it demeans those who suffer from real mental health issues.

Kennedy, the youngest son of the longtime Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, writes in The Washington Post that the rhetoric surrounding the 2016 election discourages anyone suffering mental health issues from seeking help.

I couldn't agree more. People with mental illnesses shouldn't be made to feel ashamed for their problem. They should be encouraged to seek help, at all costs.

This is for you, John.
"There's a lot to criticize about the policies, ideas and ideology of the Republican nominee," he wrote. "We can reject Trump without resorting to making baseless diagnoses of his mental health."

The question then arises:
Are delusions of grandeur and extreme narcissism a form of "crazy" ..?

Because BOTH of our choices suffer from versions of this

Sorry, but I do think Trump has mental health issues. When a person acts like he acted in the Selina Scott episode, when a person acts like he does on a daily basis, it's reasonable to think that person has mental health issues. Whether recognizing that makes it more difficult for other people who suffer from mental health issues is irrelevant.

It's not just delusions of grandeur and extreme narcissism. He has serious emotional maturity and stability issues. It's no accident that you hear references to being childish, acting like a child, etc., so often during discussion of him. It's because he does act like a child.

I just went ahead and read his op ed through. Look, I'm sorry. If there are signs that a Presidential candidate may be mentally ill you can't ignore them. You can't look at someone who appears to be acting crazy and ignore it.

I think the more appropriate statement is that he is "acting like a child". I say this because he has always been a public figure, but I don't know that anyone has ever complained of him acting like a child before this campaign. Granted, the spotlight is much brighter and the setting is very different now, but where are all the people saying that he has acted like a child before the campaign? (maybe they have, I don't know) But I would think that Directors, Producers, etc. of his TV show would have come out by now saying something. John, you are diagnosing him with a condition but maybe it's nothing more than an ill-advised act.

I don't know if I could find anything from before he decided to run for President but I can find something where someone referred to what he's done in the past as "childish." It's Selina Scott. See the comment a little past the 2:11 mark in the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdCZEFueoy8.

Let's see if the imbed works:

Jeezus Fucking Christ, John.

Your fixation, your obsession, your stalker-like behavior shows that you are the only one who is truly mentally ill in this scenario. I feel sorry for your neighbors. :?

Look, if you're watching someone running for President acting like Trump acts you have to go with what you see. And if YOU can't see issues with the way that guy acts....

Actually, I know you CAN see it. The only question is why you're choosing to ignore it.

I'm not worried about Trump's antics, because that's what they are, antics.

I don't know why in the world YOU can't see that YOU are supporting THE MOST CORRUPT piece of shit to ever run for president. I'm not talking about a run of the mill scandal. I'm talking about deep seated, institutionalized corruption. The absolute worst of the worst there is to offer. Every time she opens her mouth it is a scripted fake statement, and you are supporting that cunt with orgasmic pleasure. It's sickening. :?
