The Minnesota Family Council has introduced an amendment to ban gay marriage, which it claims will stop the world from ending.

The group made the announcement at a press conference, accompanied by religious leaders from all major faiths who said that gay marriage would trigger the end of the world.

“If everyone is a gay, this world will cease to exist in ten years,” said Ikram ul-Huq, the imam and religious director of the Muslim Community Center of Bloomington.

Andre Dukes, pastor of Shiloh Temple church in Minneapolis, said: "This is not a political issue, or an issue of choice or rights. It is an issue of life."

Legislation introduced recently in Minnesota and currently passing through committees would permit gay marriage by making the marriage laws gender-neutral.

Commentators have said the amendment to ban gay marriage is unlikely to pass.

Not to be rude, but do you have anything better to do? You are so preoccupied with the whole gay thing, any other topics of interest?

I post plenty of other topics, but being gay, and at some point wanting equality in my life, this is of interest to me.

I had a great conversation not too long ago about "the gay crusade" as it was put by one person...
The argument was something like: The only thing gay's are concerned about is gay stuff...

and after a while of the conversation kind of circling around one gal spoke up, she's a psychologist and very cool... she was kind of nodding and listening then she says...(as best as I can paraphrase)

"People who are not actively being discriminated against seem confused that those that are - are so concerned about it, add to that a long history of basic discrimination against the gay community and then add a very specific or active discrimination and people become very focused..."

she later said: When you personally are being discriminated against... it consumes you, people just want things to be fair - fair for everybody..."

so Jon in some small way I understand better...

"People who are not actively being discriminated against seem confused that those that are - are so concerned about it, add to that a long history of basic discrimination against the gay community and then add a very specific or active discrimination and people become very focused..."

she later said: When you personally are being discriminated against... it consumes you, people just want things to be fair - fair for everybody..."

so Jon in some small way I understand better...

I agree with that. However, I also think the magnitude of the fairness comes into play. A lot of the gay right movement is fighting against complete blasphemy. He isn't posting about gay people being sterotyped as interior designers, he is posting about not being able to pass his money along to his partner tax free (among other things through marriage) like any other couple. HUGE difference in my eyes. Everyone is somewhat discriminated against, but the severity of discrimination is really the focal point. I think the idea that gay people only focus on this would be like telling a black man in the 60s he is only focused on civil rights, somewhat narrow minded if you can't see the impact that has on a person's life.

Agreed...
and I appreciate the "Black man in the 60's " perspective... My mother told me a story about a time when she was in college and a group of black students walked by with a banner in protest... and the girl she was standing next to said: "Why can't they just be happy..."

The idea that somebody should "just be happy" while they are being discriminated against is silly and is wedged deeply from a perspective of complete ignorance... Perhaps they are happy... they are still motivated to change the situation...
