Appalachian State University students must walk past a “privilege board” denouncing their white, male, able-bodied, Christian, or cisgender privilege any time they enter the Student Union.

The bulletin board is located in Plemmons Student Union (PSU), which the school calls “the centerpiece of the Appalachian campus,” and was apparently put up by a student group last semester, but has been allowed to remain in place to date.

The bulletin board features fliers from the “Check Your Privilege” campaign started by professors at the University of San Francisco, and features memes with phrases such as “Look at all the privileges I haven’t checked.”

Actually the opposite - it's people who's gender self identity conforms to their biological sex. That's a privilege, not having to worry about how society judges you because you believe you're a man and you have man parts (or vice versa and are a woman and have woman parts). Your privilege blinds you to the trauma and stress that men who have women parts feel every day.

Cisgender: a gender identity, or performance in a gender role, that society deems to match the person’s assigned sex at birth. The prefix cis- means "on this side of" or "not across." A term used to call attention to the privilege of people who are not transgender.
Cissexism/Genderism: Is the belief that there are, and should be, only two genders & that one’s gender or most aspects of it, are inevitably tied to assigned sex. In a genderist/cissexist construct, cisgender people are the dominant/agent group and trans*/ gender non-conforming people are the oppressed/target group.

Colleges have gotten worse and worse. In our day it was just political correctness, now it's limiting the speech of people from "privileged" categories. Don't want all that privilege getting in the way of actual dialogue.

From the whacko on my Facebook feed (she's a prof at a state college in PA) there are at least 5 genders, or that's at least what Native Americans, in their estimable wisdom, had acknowledged.

That liberal crap really irritates me. Where are these benefits that I'm supposed to have received from being white?

Privilege: a set of unearned benefits given to people who fit into a specific social group. The concept has roots in WEB DuBois’ work on “psychological wage” and white people’s feelings of superiority over Black people. Peggy McIntosh wrote about privilege as a white woman and developed an inventory of unearned privileges that she experienced in daily life because of her whiteness.
