How can that be? The donks were saying all last week that Iowa didn't have black people.93henfan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 9:28 amThat's one part of it. Iowa started a HS girls wrestling program this year with its own state championship. Previously there have been some girls wrestling with the boys. A few years ago one girl made it to state in a low weight class and her first round opponent at state forfeited. He came from a very religious family and he felt it was wrong for a guy to be wrestling a girl.

I still say that wrestling is the gayest sport out there. That includes figure skating.

I wrestled in high school and never once got even a semi.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

HotAir reporting on a recent Pop Mech article on AATIP and those flying tic tacs, and some shocking details about the program.
https://hotair.com/archives/jazz-shaw/2 ... on-secret/
I find this fascinating... I am a firm believer in the Drake Equation but also in the merits of the Fermi Paradox
I think that people like Carl Sagan were correct- that based on the laws of physics that are known to us, it is exceedingly unlikely that we would ever be visited by biological beings from other solar systems. The times involved even relativistic travel speeds would just be too much to contemplate.
But what if these are drones? Dispatched millions of years ago by civilizations or entities playing the long game? Maybe in anticipation of future ability to travel firsthand?
And why haven’t we heard these other civilizations... when they were only as advanced as we now are, and were broadcasting their own TV signals into space?
Could it be that when they are on the cusp of being able to achieve two way commo outside their own solar systems, or at least observe the signatures of other civilizations that they receive a “visit” from these flying tic tacs as prelude to some kind of great reveal? Something like, “We see you are about to join the club, so let us tell you the rules: the first rule of advanced civilization club is you dont talk about advanced civilization club.”
They give us quantum communications so we can broadcast in an undetectable way so that we are hidden from less advanced civilizations, and then allow us to continue to develop until we are ready for the next step. The Chinese are working on quantum communications tech. Rumor has it they can do it out to about 100 miles. We are talking about a real life Ansible here. How did they develop this? They don’t do anything that they haven’t copied from us or Russia, so what gives? They can hardly make motorcycles that don’t fall apart after a couple years and they’re now doing quantum commo? Hm
This whole scenario was dreamed up by Carl Sagan in Contact, so it isn’t new. But it certainly makes sense at some levels.
Anyway, fascinating stuff

IMO those programs are Cold War relics concerned that UFOs are the Russians or Chinese using Star Treky technology for spying. Today I think most people realize that gravity well generators or tractor beams or plasma weapons are less likely to practical or possible. It's telling to me that the government would cut funding for SETI and no one within defense is willing to defend it.

Ok. Corrupt scumbags should be pardoned or have their sentences commuted... because...?

They shouldn't. Trump is just greasing the skids for his own pardon.Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 1:23 pm Ok. Corrupt scumbags should be pardoned or have their sentences commuted... because...?

This commuting the sentence of Blago gives Dems a bit of ammo against Trump. Is there a Dem plant advising Trump on this one?

Boy Scouts of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. Financial pressure of lawsuits led to this. Sad story.

I know 93 had a different experience but when my kids tried it...95% fundraising and 5% scouting.
They devolved.

I was a Scout myself (in the 1965-70 range) before all this sexual abuse stuff hit the fan. Learned a lot about self-reliance and camping. It was fun. I guess I was lucky not to have any creepy scoutmasters. What’s happened now is a damn shame.

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
I was in Scouts from the cubs all they way until I was 17. I bagged out of my Eagle by just a service project. That’s one of my big regrets.
My troop was a bunch of redneck tobacco farmers kids and assorted survivalists. We fed into an Explorer troop that was just shy of a prison gang. We literally went into the woods camping with no food and just killed shit and ate it.
I miss those days.... probably why I welcome the lights going out

It is. I learned a lot in scouts that I still use today. Learning to camp, build a fire, shoot, fish, first aid, community service have all been useful tools. Simply knowing how to tie knots comes in handy often. We of course called, but we’d call out at reenactments, camp out in adverse weather like snow for badges, rock climbing, skiing, whitewater rafting, etc...
We had great leaders who my father remained friends with until his death. I don’t recall any leader being creepy. I don’t think the rednecks would’ve tolerated it. The guys I was in with, for the most part, were classmates and we still talk and get together to this day. Looking back - I cherish those times. It was just Dad and I and we had some fun, scary, memorable experiences. I’m proud to be an Eagle Scout.

We were told that Trump is rooting out corruption. Pardoning corrupt people is part of that process.

My brother was an Explorer Scout. I didn’t go into it. My buddy did but ended up banging and dating the only girl. Then dropped out.
