O'Brien said Wednesday that the senior career CIA officer who briefs President Trump in person made the decision not to verbally brief him on intelligence about a Russian scheme to offer bounties targeting American troops in Afghanistan, saying she lacked confidence in the veracity of the intelligence

Bill Gabbert, former fire management officer for Mount Rushmore and six other national parks in the region, said the controversial fireworks show that could attract 7,500 people, possibly including President Donald Trump, would be “ill advised” even when conditions are not as dry as they are now.

“Burning debris, the burning embers and unexploded shells fall into a ponderosa pine forest and ponderosa pine is extremely flammable,” said Gabbert. “Shooting fireworks over a ponderosa pine forest, or any flammable vegetation, is ill advised and should not be done. Period.”
Odds are pretty good nothing serious will happen. But can you just imagine.

The other side of the story:
The National Park Service, which manages the memorial, has determined that launching fireworks at Mount Rushmore would pose only a slight fire risk. In an environmental assessment conducted as part of the 2020 fireworks planning process, NPS staff estimated that, under normal conditions, there was a .02% chance of a 15- to 30-minute display igniting a wildfire that could threaten nearby homes, businesses or campgrounds.
Only thing is that is an "under normal conditions" estimate and if I'm reading right the conditions are "Abnormally dry."

With respect to this quote from the piece:
Transphobes often point out that you’re born with either XX (female) or XY (male) chromosomes, which are encoded into every cell in the human body; yet, there are many "biological females" who have XY chromosomes, and vice versa
I don't think people who appear female while having XY chromosomes are really biological females or that people who appear to be male while having XX chromosomes are really biologically male. I think they are biologically, as a functional matter, asexual. They are infertile. Both conditions are disorders. I did find a report of a "woman" with XY chromosomes having a successful pregnancy but it was with donor eggs and embryo transfer.

For information on individuals appearing female but with XY chromosomes (Swyer Syndrome), see https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/swyer-syndrome.

For information on individuals appearing male but with XX chromosomes (46,XX testicular disorder), see https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/46xx- ... evelopment.

Both are rare. Something on the order of 1 in 20,000 apparent female births for XY "females" and 1 in 20,000 apparent male births for XX "males." Being a reproductively functional member of one sex or the other is indeed a binary thing determined by whether you have XX or XY chromosomes.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Love me some Don Surber. Retired old school journalist who puts out a daily, except Sunday, Highlights of the News and additional pieces like this along the way.

https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2020/07/ ... s.html?m=1
And I thought everyone knew why President Donald John Trump tweets.

Apparently, many people don't.

Allow me to explain. His tweets are successful. They work. They help him and therefore this great nation. We know this because liberals and other loonies work overtime trying to get him kicked off Twitter.

I think they are a double edged sword for him. He's not expanding his base of support with them. He's got a solid base but the solid base is a minority of the general population as well as a minority of the voters. I think there is a strong possibility that, since he's been elected, his tweeting has been a net negative for him.

I don't think his tweeting is what won him the 2016 election. I think the three things that won him the 2016 election were 1) Hillary making the mistake of using a private e mail server earlier, 2) Comey coming out shortly before the election raising that issue again and 3) the Russians working to suppress Democrat turnout.

So, how many of the 30 states he won in 2016 are still his? Surber, for what it is worth, thinks he wins 37.

Clinton's unfavorables were extremely high. So were Trump's... but, they're much higher now. Trump won in a coin toss in 2016. Biden's unfavorable a aren't nearly as high.

Exactly. Now I just need to keep it consistent. We are almost through drizzly season, so I need to take advantage of riding outdoors.

Got a nice spin bike in the garage, but that just blows compared to getting out for an hour.

Really like where I live. Downhill to the multi use path, so I usually move through town as fast if not faster than traffic and then have come up with six different ways to climb back home that keep me off the main road.

She's done nothing but backed establishment Donk talking points and policies. This is just the far left eating the "moderate" left if that is what you want to consider Bari Weiss. All I know is she got completely pwned on Rogan's show a while ago when she tried to attack Tulsi for her foreign policy platform.
