Well, I'll take flak for saying it but I do think the whole sexual offender thing is out of control and over the top. Like I got a "sexual offender" notification the other day about some woman who apparently had sex with an underaged male in the early 1990s.

We really shouldn't have that kind of crap.
How underaged? If the kid was 17 then I would agree.

If he was 12 then no.

We've got a guy a few streets down that's a registered offender. He liked to invite girls into his shed, take pictures of them and touch them.
The problem is the lechers get classified the same as the 18 year olds who got caught porking their 15 year old girlfriends on prom night. This dragnet picked up some people it shouldn’t have. Sex offender registration is a typical “one size fits all” solution ... yet another example of how government turns everything to sh1t

I agree. A one size fits all approach will wreck havoc. Judges need to be able to make judgement calls in situations where the law doesn't necessarily make sense. It's truly a case by case basis. :twocents:

It was the early 1990s. I'm going to say 1992 from memory. That's 26 years. At some point it needs to stop. You don't label somebody like that because of something that happened 26 years ago. They shouldn't have to register as a "sex offender" for something that happened 26 years ago. Sure, it's on their record and they did it and such. But at some point the society needs to let it go. When you've got a situation where somebody like me gets a notification about a woman because 26 years ago she had a thing with an underaged guy it is over the top.

Do we get notifications about people who were convicted of armed robbery 26 years ago? Hell, how about manslaughter? The sex offender thing is just over the top at this point.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

I don't see how people can objectively look at the history of socialist countries and think that they are successful. Think they represent the will of the people and provide freedoms/liberties. It's all about control. The antithesis of our republic. Communism/Socialism just hasn't been successful nor good for the people during implementation.

Even the commies in China have become more capitalist than socialist. Well..there economy anyway.

Definitely, let’s follow the Brits into totally government run health care...

Thousands in Britain left to go blind due to eye surgery rationing: Report
Thousands of elderly people in Britain are left to go blind because of rationing of eye surgery in the National Health Service (NHS), a report revealed on Saturday (April 6).

The Times newspaper said a survey by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCO) found tens of thousands of elderly people are left struggling to see because of an NHS cost-cutting drive that relies on them dying before they can qualify for cataract surgery.
https://www.straitstimes.com/world/euro ... ing-report

But we know the response from the Progressive left will be..the same response they give us about socialism...

The problem with the debate over socialized medicine/government healthcare/single payer (whatever you want to call it) is that one side argues from the assumption that it actually works well in Britain/Canada/wherever and takes that part as read. In case anyone was wondering, this is the same side that likes to point put how Cuba has better healthcare than the US because its free

All one has to do is look at the VA system. Sheer numbers make it inefficient.

That won't make politicians care... and they don't care
until they care our healthcare system will remain broken

Note:
Our Healthcare system will remain broken as long as politicians don't care
presently politicians get free excellent healthcare - so they don't care about healthcare

Take it away from them and make them use Obama Care and shit will get fixed ASAP

I know it is fun to boil problems down to digestible fun facts Clitz ... but the fact that a plurality of Americans have some kind of employer provided health insurance and do not want to switch to the DMV for their healthcare is a much more significant driver of this.

Much for the same reason law abiding gun owners resist restrictions designed to prevent them from committing crimes with guns.

I respectfully disagree
If we changed our politicians healthcare to Obama care
Our national healthcare situation would get fixed in 36 months

Not if they want to keep their jobs -

That’s assuming that when you say “fix”, you mean one of the Democrats’ “fixes”.

(There is no fix that is politically possible now)

Strange ^ observation...
Nobody is "stopping" anybody - you don't have to "stop" somebody from doing nothing

Politicians en mas are doing exactly nothing
and most certainly "nothing" when it comes to effecting their big pharma lobby money
all while the insurance companies and pharma are playing both sides of the isle hard and fast

So to answer your questions from above: What fix and what is the best system - we'll likely never know
because those that write the legislation and endeavor to research a solution are inert
stalling in perfect bliss... They have the worlds greatest healthcare for free
and get paid a lot to do precisely nothing

and as CID noted... any miss step will get them fired
and doing nothing gets them rich and perfectly cared for

a better question is... what research is being done ..?
what team of financial and medical systems experts are working together
and studying the US healthcare landscape..?

oh, and if you want to see a bi-partisan commission

That’s quite a drift away from the original premise - that it would be “fixed” if Congresscritters had to utilize the ACA
