The Democrat wins Louisiana Governor's race in spite of Trump going all in trying to defeat him:

https://www.thedailybeast.com/john-bel- ... -louisiana
The Democrat won after Trump visited the state three times to rally for his ouster and throw support behind his Republican challenger.
Now, I realize that Louisiana is going to go Trump during the next Presidential election. But I still think it's good. I wonder how he's going to spin it.

Trump lent his support to three deep red state Republican gubernatorial candidates lately and two of them lost.

Yup. It was the nutria vote that pushed Edwards over the top.

He won't. He's an outdoorsman type. He likes to hunt and fish. He's not in step with the mainstream Democratic Party on social issues. He's pro second amendment and pro life. He's a West Point graduate and former Army Airborne Ranger. He's not what one might call the "typical" democrat.

He is more "Democrat" when it comes to fiscal issues like being willing to increase taxes in order to balance the budget. Also supported Medicaid expansion in the State. And Louisiana is in better fiscal shape now than it was for decades prior to him taking office. And that's in spite of having a Republican legislature making it difficult for him to do what he wants to do.

Orleans and East Baton Rouge. I knew he was going to win last night when I was looking at a New York times tracker saying it was close. At the time the Republican was a little ahead. Yeah it was close and the Republican was ahead in the votes counted to that point. But 100% or close to 100% of the votes were in for most parishes while about 70% of East Baton Rouge and 50% of Orleans Parish were in. As soon as I saw that I knew it was over for the Republican.

In the end Edwards beat the Republican by 114,812 to 13,041 in Orleans and by 104,022 to 53,419.

Increase taxes. Check.

Medicaid expansion, Check.

I didn't say I was for raising taxes or Medicaid expansion. I said that the guy is more "Democrat" on fiscal issues than he is on social issues and used raising taxes and Medicaid expansion as examples. I'm including things like gun control and the hunting/fishing culture as social issues.

If I had my way government would not be trying to do as much as it does so taxes would not have to be as high. But whether I am for taxes or not, Louisiana government is in better fiscal shape now than it's been in for decades. At least he's not like Republicans who claim they can cut taxes and balance budgets by virtue of the Laffer Curve theory instead of having to make hard choices.

Interesting part in there on how polling has flipped on the moral vs policy friendly question since 1999

Yes it was just as bad with Democrats and Clinton back in the day. One thing that really got me is how the feminists turned on the women accusing Clinton of misconduct. All of a sudden "believe the woman" wasn't operable. National Organization of Women continued to support Clinton even when he was credibly accused of forcible rape.

I think the video in the article at https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/17/politics ... index.html lays out what happened in Louisiana well. Talks about how Bel-Edwards is pro life and pro gun and also has been putting the State financial situation in order. Also talks about how a spike in turnout among Blacks was associated with Trump weighing in.

And one day in the future it will surely flip back. And over and over again.

And it will have a surprising (not surprising) correlation to which party holds the Oval Office!

One thing that has remained the same - the progressive Dems are still nasty to women when those women do not have the correct politics. It was that way during Clinton (all his accusers were trailer trash) and it is that way now.

Well the Fresno one occurred in the Peoples Republic of California. We all know bad things don't happen there b/c of their liberal Utopia. That's obviously fake news.

What about the Oklahoma WalMart shootings? WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!?!?!?!?

Fresneck one was also a minor, a minority, and a handgun. Just doens’t fit the big, bad assault rifle agenda.

There are several agendas that are not served by this shooting.

Reuters drops story once it realizes Obama was the cause instead of Trump. All they had to do was to correct the story.

No bias there.
"'The United States is one of the countries with the highest numbers - we still have more than 100,000 children in migration-related detention in the (U.S.),' Nowak told a news briefing.

"'Of course separating children, as was done by the Trump administration, from their parents and even small children at the Mexican-U.S. border is absolutely prohibited by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. I would call it inhuman treatment for both the parents and the children.'"

It's still a shooting by an evil gun. Are you not reading your alt-left memos? :suspicious:

That’s not why they dropped the story.

They dropped it because the UN report numbers were grossly incorrect.

And yes, they were from 2015.

Very succinct and great article.  :notworthy:
That means politically partisan Americans are defining themselves not by what they have in common with allies, but by how much they hate their enemies. They may not have a good handle on what they're fighting about but, damnit, they're gonna We.

Exactly. Fine to run it when Trump was blamed, but retract the story when wrong. Nice effort fact checking in the first place.
