I still believe that we will lose the ability to support the world population once we hit around 9 or 10 billion people

But that said, this flies a bit in the face of that if you consider the relative availability of commodities to be a determining factor:

There is a tipping point out there somewhere, but we have a long long way to go before we get anywhere close.

What the hell was a 74 year old doing trying to hike Squaw/Piestwa Peak? I’ve hiked it several times. As I recall, its 1.2 miles/1200 ft elevation gain with rock scrambles at the top. A ball buster if you’re not in very good shape.
Dude. When I lived in Phoenix, there were a brother sister duo that climbed Camelback in black hockey jerseys when it was like 105 out. If I remember right, the boy passed out and was pretty much rescued by a firefighter training in the area.

This news is a couple of days old now, but it bears reminding everyone with small children to watch them like a hawk at pools.

Bad things can happen even when people are around.

Back in summer 2010, when my youngest son was 2 1/2, we were at a hotel pool in NC for my BIL's wedding. My then-wife and I were both in the pool with both of our sons, playing zone defense. Well, my older son distracted me while I was covering the little guy, and the ex didn't switch zones. I turned to older son for several seconds and turned back to see my youngest had walked from chest high water to over his head and he was suspended, leaning forward, and starting to inhale water. He wasn't flailing or anything because he was too young to even know he was in trouble. I yanked him out of the pool and he coughed it out on the concrete. Fucking terrified me. I had some minor PTSD from guilt the rest of that day.

When I was 3, I was almost a victim in my aunt’s neighborhood pool. I wandered off and jumped in. Some Good Samaritan pulled me out. To this day, I think I can remember going under.

They used to play this video in Phoenix during pool season to warn people how quickly shit can happen.

Video was of a grampa, and he was sitting on the edge of the pool (feet in water), with a grand child on each side.

Gramps is talking to child #1, then turns his head to speak to child #2. Sure as shit, Grampa isn't even done fully rotating his head to #2 before child #1 hops off the edge and goes under.

It took so long (4 seconds) for Gramps to notice the kid right next to him had hopped in the water, it made you squirm for the kids safety.

The point? It can happen in a second and right in front of you. That kid couldn't have timed it any more perfect if he wanted to drown.

Not so much news worthy but hilarious.

Chick brings bat to a fight, gets it taken from her in about 2 seconds flat, dares the other girl to hit her with it, so she does!

Then she gets in a nice right cross to her chops!

Sign of the times. How is this even making the radar of a national news organization?

Executive summary. Video gamer live streams himself taking a piss at at a gaming convention and has his credentials revoked. This is newsworthy?

I think the tipping point will be reached from a societal breakdown level, not a pure "ability of the earth to support the population" level...

Societal breakdown is one result.. a symptom of overpopulation..

We are already seeing it today in its nascent forms

We increasingly flock to urban centers where we are literally on top of each other and then we proceed to percolate in our lack of space. Like too many hamsters in a too small cage- human beings have spent millenia in relative solitude... with just small familial bands as company

The world’s population being over 1 billion people is literally the last 1 second of the year of human existence:

https://www.worldometers.info/world-pop ... n-by-year/

We aren’t biologically wired to be up each others’ asses. We were 3 billion people when I was born. We are now over 7 billion after 50 years.

So I think you are correct - we’ll kill each other long before we starve, but that is also a function of population.

Pled guilty. And made a statement that they didn’t think their arrests were racially motivated.

A college really can’t faceplant more than Oberlin did here - but if you look at their communications with their alumni, they are doubling down on the SJW stupidity

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. His opinions on abortion have nothing to do with his qualifications as a cyber security expert. Excluding him is regressive.
