BTW diplomatic cables aren’t “online” per se

They are electronic like emails but on secure classified systems

Somebody intentionally leaked classified

He shouldn’t have-

He was doing his job ... being candid for the benefit of the Foreign Office

If it was us, I’d say go after the leakers and land on them with both boots - I think 20 years busting rocks would suffice

But that’s up to the Brits

He was doing his job in both cases - he was doing his job in being candid with the country he represented as ambassador and he was also doing his job resigning as once the material was leaked there was no way he could continue on as ambassador and by resigning he saved his country the difficulty of having to recall him. That's just the job of being a diplomat.

That's true to a degree -

Under normal circumstances where the host country isn't led by a serial tweet-farter, leaked diplomatic cables lead to embarrassment and sometimes reveal sources (making it very difficult to develop more people who will talk to us) but rarely result in resignations

Because we all do it - nobody in the dip community harbors some myth that our colleagues go easy on us in their confidential communications. So there is a large amount of forgiveness there. We were one of the biggest recipients of that forgiveness by just about every country where we have a foreign mission when the traitor Bradley Manning sent all those cables to Wikileaks...

We had some tense moments, we got scolded some, (I read a LOT of cables so we could get in front of the damage), but in general our hosts basically gave us the old, "no worries, we say things about you too"

(As an aside, a few media outlets who read our cables gave us props for writing skills at State)

But yeah - this is a bit of a different situation where the Prez publicly tweeted that he won't deal with the guy now. But I would be turning over chairs looking for the leak

With friends like this, who needs enemies...

U.S. missiles, sold to France, found in rebel hands in Libya

Authorities said Wednesday Libyan government forces have discovered multiple U.S.-made Javelin anti-tank missiles in rebel hands, prompting new concern about covert and illegal arm sales.

The French military, which bought the missiles from the United States, said it wasn't sure how the weapons ended up under insurgent control in Libya. French officials denied selling them to opposition Gen. Khalifa Hifter, who's seeking to overthrow the U.N.-backed government in Tripoli.

Said it before, but any mediocre politician who takes Trumps' nativist populism and emphatic rejection of woke culture and combines that with the economic populism of Bernie and Elizabeth Warren would be unstoppable. Of course, that won't happen because Bernie or Elizabeth aren't reinventing themselves. They're true believers it's righteous to oppose H1B visas but that it's xenophobic bigotry when Bubba and Jim Bob make basically the same complaints about illegal immigration.

That’s why so many cosmonauts whacked the ground or burned to cinders

The so-called Freedom Caucus, from which Mulvaney came, has morphed into a full-throated Trumpian cohort. So much for the Tea Party.

Yet, another "hate-crime" hoax.

'Untrue': Man accused of telling black lawmaker to 'go back where you came from' speaks out
A man accused of telling a black Georgia lawmaker to "go back" to where she came from in a Publix grocery store is speaking out with a different version of events.

In a Facebook Live video on Friday, state Rep. Erica Thomas recounted the alleged incident.

"This white man comes up to me and says, 'You lazy son of a bitch. ... You need to go back where you came from,'" she said. “I said, ‘Sir, you don't even know me. I'm not lazy. I'm nine months pregnant."

The man in question, Eric Sparkes, however, later told local outlet WSB-TV his side of the story following an explosive confrontation between him and Thomas. While he admitted that he did call her a "bitch," Sparkes denied telling her to "go back."

"That's all I said after that, and I walked out of Publix," he said, adding that he is of Cuban descent. "Her words stating on [Facebook] in her video, stating I told her she needs to go back where she came from are untrue."

He also accused Thomas of making up the story for "political purposes."

"Like I said earlier, I'm a Democrat," he said. "I will vote Democrat the rest of my life, OK? So to call me what she wants to believe for her political purposes that make it black, white, brown or whatever, that is so untrue."

Donks.
