Presidential Debate Thread- #1

If presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton slips into a coughing fit or any other medical crisis during Monday's high-stakes debate, she will have to power through, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned!

"There are no commercial breaks," a commission source explains. "Period."

Debate moderator Lester Holt does not have the authority to cut away from the stage during the epic 90-minute showdown. And microphone audio for either of the candidates is not to be manipulated.

Clinton has experienced severe coughing episodes throughout the election year. During a Labor Day campaign stop she suffered a 4-minute choking marathon.

Monday's throwdown could top out at 100 million viewers, making it the biggest political event in history.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The presidential debate commission settled an early flashpoint when Clinton demanded a step-stool at the podium to add height to her 5'4" frame. Campaign Chairman John Podesta expressed concern that Hillary would be dwarfed by 6'2" Trump. The request was quickly rejected. The commission is allowing for a custom-made podium, which will accommodate the difference in stature.

No commercials. No step stool. No mercy!

Must watch TV. When was the last time a car wreck was scheduled in advance?

I wouldn't get too excited.

If the expectation is that she'll have a coughing fit or some kind of medical emergency and she doesn't... it will come off as a win for her.

God fucking damnit I hate this election. :?

Yeah, I said basically the same thing yesterday.

Getting through without an episode is a win for her. She is the underdog now, after the medical coverage. She just needs to avoid getting too preachy or screech owlish. If she does, Donald will destroy her. But I don't think she will. Her handlers are pretty good at debate prep.

I think people are really going to be bored with Trump. I don't think he's going to say anything dumb. His handlers have kept him pretty much in line for the past month and he's gained considerably.

This debate will be a staring contest of the screech owl versus the sensational statement maker. Whoever blinks first loses.

Zero chance of that, but liberals seem to be immune to it. She's like a dog whistle that only non-liberals can hear.

Someone needs to bring a balloon and then just pop it in the middle of the debate and set off whatever it is that Hillary has.

Otherwise, it's going to be ugly. Trump can't do anything impromptu.

Hillary demanded a step stool so that she can look taller? :suspicious:

Holy crap...she is the ultimate in image control...and JSO loves that sort of thing. :dunce:

Trump ought to put that is his ads.

"Is Hillary going to demand a step stool every time she needs to step up to the world's leaders?"

I a primary tactic Clinton should employ is to call Trump out every time he lies because we can be sure he is going to lie a lot just like he did in the Republican debates. The first time he lies say, "Mr. Trump got away with lying repeatedly during the Republican debates. I'm not going to let that happen. What he just said is a lie. Fact check it."

That's it. If he protests just look at the camera and say, "Fact check it." Then keep doing that all through the debate. "That was another lie. Fact check it."

Another thing I would do is look for an opportunity to work in how he's lied about his judgment. So like if he talks about Clinton's judgment, something like, "You know, Mr. Trump has never been in the arena. So like when he was videoed in 2007 saying we should just declare victory and leave Iraq cold, his judgment didn't have any consequences. Same thing when he was videoed in 2011 saying we should use our military directly against Quaddafi in Lybia."

The thing about him saying he was forcefully opposed to the Iraq invasion will be covered by the "That's another lie. Fact check it" process. The media will agree with her on that.

He could just employ the same tactic against the Queen of Lies. It's a no win strategy for a sociopath such as herself.

Nice editorial:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/23/opini ... -game.html
Here’s what we can be fairly sure will happen in Monday’s presidential debate: Donald Trump will lie repeatedly and grotesquely, on a variety of subjects. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton might say a couple of untrue things. Or she might not.

Here’s what we don’t know: Will the moderators step in when Mr. Trump delivers one of his well-known, often reiterated falsehoods?
Probably not. It's a fantasy but I think what they should do with these debates after this season in which Donald Trump has made great hay by lying repeatedly during them is do a video delay thing. Video the debate on one day then televise it on the next. Before televising it, have fact checkers go through it. And every time one of the candidate makes a false or misleading statement put a caption up while they're saying it reading "false" or "misleading."

Trump aside, that would greatly improve the quality of the debates. The candidates would know it was coming.

Of course such an approach would absolutely neuter Trump because he can't function without lying or misleading. Not even a little bit.

And, no HIllary is not just as bad about that. She's not. And you guys that keep arguing that she is are in denial.

Here's a thing about one particular lie in a Republican debate:

http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-je ... ing-502144

It's about how he said during that debate that he never tried to get Casino gambling in Florida when he's in a deposition saying that he did. Not only that, he was saying he never tried that to Jeb Bush and he had said in the deposition that he contacted Jeb Bush about it.

You guys that are sweet on this guy are either intentionally obtuse or insane.

No, he couldn't because she does not lie nearly as much as he does. All you have to do is look at what the media say about fact checking the two. And that's what she would be doing. Telling the media to fact check him. They get into a "fact check him/her" contest and he's going to lose very badly.
