Trump calls out Warren Buffet as a tax dodger too - apparently to lessen the severity of his appearance
And Buffett responds with "I'll make public all 72 of my tax returns" to prove that (guess what) trump lied again

Curious if Buffet is going to make tax returns available for Berkshire Hathaway. From the article, I didn't read if it was Buffet's personal or business returns that reported losses according to Trump. More in likely, Trump wasn't able to get that point across, therefore, he is open to attack due to rambling on and shooting from the hip. Buffet's business doesn't appear to have many losses over time, so they would be small compared to Trump, but I'm sure it has included losses at some point.

IMO, most, if not all businesses include losses in their tax returns, which affect how much they pay at the end of the year. Machinery breaking down, fluctuation of the cost of goods sold, etc.

Not voting for Trump, don't support Trump, just see him as the attention grabbing buffoon that he is.

It doesn't matter if Buffett reported an overall loss or not. The question is whether or not he offset gains with any amount of losses. Surely he did. He just may not have had more losses than gains as Trump did.

Buffet and anybody else with substantial income hire accountants and lawyers to reduce their tax liabilities including the Clintons. The difference is it is hard for people who have made their money giving speeches and handing out political favors to use legal loopholes.

Do any of you look at tax returns for a living? I do. I have yet to see a self-employed person not write off everything they can. Then they turn around and come to me for a loan when on paper they have no income.

 The wifey was self employed by one of those make-up places (Avon or something). We wrote off a shit ton of basic stuff (percentage of rent, utilities, etc) stuff during those years...all completely legal. :D

I've seen people write off stuff they have no business writing off. Happens a lot with immigrants who go to an accountant from their country. They trust them and often they either don't know what they're doing, or they take advantage of them. Took an application from a guy who wrote off mileage for his car. I was puzzled because of the job he had. I asked if he had to travel for work... no. Did he have a couple different offices where he worked... no. Did he have to go to client locations... no. He was basically writing off his commute. Reduced his taxable income almost in half and he didn't qualify for a mortgage. Actually felt bad for the guy because he trusted an idiot.

This. One of the best 'investments' I made when starting my own businesses was hiring an accounting firm to do my taxes and watch over both my books (well, one book now since I sold one business). They've handled several issues for me both at the state and federal level and have been able to write-off a shit-ton of stuff for me.

I always appreciate the call around December 1st from them reminding me to pay off as many bills as I can and to buy as much biz related items as I can before January 1st

Also, I am always amazed at an extremely rich person saying yeah let's raise taxes. It's like well you already got yours so it isn't going to hurt you any.

Yeah we didn't go that extreme, but we do our own (wifey is an accountant). I think we itemized almost $5k for her work one year.

You seem a little on edge about Trump these days...
The epiphany was not that he lies but there is absolutely NOTHING he won't lie about
even things that are easily verified - he still lies - knowing full well everybody will know he lied

That's pathological lying...

Frankly it's strange behavior and exceedingly dangerous

For the lawn biz? Zero. It's always been zero.

The distillery will be buying about 20k bottles, about 100 oak barrels and some other items for end of the year. Distillery also might be buying two of my vehicles from the lawn biz. Drive up those end-of-year expenses, baby!!!!
