Uppity Russians! Much a do about nothing or reason for concern?

It's not a new Cold War. It's not even a deep chill. It's an outright conflict.

US-Russia relations have deteriorated sharply amid a barrage of accusations and disagreements, raising the stakes on issues ranging from the countries' competing military operations in Syria, disputes over Eastern European independence and escalating cyber breaches.

The truth is neither of the candidates has what it takes to deal with an emboldened Russia. hilldog had a major hand in getting us to this point with our relations with Russia so I'm thinking she will only make things worse as POTUS. And I don't think Trump has the capability to really change anything either. This is part of the "we are fvcked no matter who wins" we get this election cycle.

This saber-rattling is purely poilitical. If hackers and wikileaks were targeting the Republican nominee Obama would be doing nothing and telling any Republicans that complain that the 80s called and they want their foreign policy back.

Whether it's all bluster or not, Putin has been pushing all the US buttons and found out Obama really doesn't have a poker face. Syria was an opportunity to test how far he could push the US (turns out it was all the way), getting a chance to try out some military hardware, demonstrate some common resolve with the Iranians against us, and reinforcing a minimal Mediterranean naval presence in Tartus.

Since WWII, with the exception of a few limited periods (part of the Gorbachev era), relations between the US and Russia have generally ranged from chilly to outright bad. And even under Gorby, we weren't geopolitical "allies." Where's the alignment of national interests that would generate something better?
