Are both major parties about to change?

Where do both of the major parties go from here? Trump broke all of the conventional wisdom of GOP brain trust when it comes to running and he wins the most decisive victory since Ronald Reagan?

And the donks have to be reeling from getting shellacked in the rust belt's electoral votes.

Where do they go from here?

Wherever they go, you have to think the GOP is in a better place than the Donks. The Presidency was the only thing the Donks were winning. Now, every level of government, from the Presidency to the Congress to the governor's houses to the state legislatures are predominately in GOP hands. For a party in its dying moments, the GOP is going out in style apparently.

You would hope that if one thing happened from last night it's that both parties need to change. Yes the GOP controls Congress but they don't have the Presidency. Trump is more a Populist than a Republican, and that's a good thing. People defeat Government.

Agreed.

I said it before and I'll say it again. We need to thank our lucky stars that Trump found a way to beat Ted Cruz in the primaries, because otherwise, because of Hillary's many flaws, we would be waking up to a President-elect Cruz this morning and we would all be justified in being afraid. Trump is almost a Democrat compared to Cruz, so I think we'll be just fine. And yes, Trump should be a very good moderating force on the otherwise self-destructive tendencies of the GOP Congress. This could actually work (but they could still screw it up of course).

I think when people are talking about the death of the GOP they don't mean the party itself but its ideals. Trump had a message that was a cross between the French national front and Occupy Wall Street and did what GWB, John McCain, and Mitt Romney couldn't do.

This was not a win for conservatism. Now, there's talk of making Reince Priebus Trump's chief of staff. American conservatives probably feel like they're in the wilderness right now.

Well, when they went full in with the social policies they borrowed from the Inquisition and when they gave the whacko religious right so much power, they pretty much deserved the spot in the wildnerness where they could still be. Fiscal conservatism with a moderate social stance would resonate with a large number of people. All evidence to the affirmative.

Indeed,
I absolutely saw the Trump message blowing up the GOP in the primaries
But figured it would end right there

But it didn't
It carried over

Again:
The Latino Vote and the Black Vote don't mean a thing
if ALL THE WHITE PEOPLE VOTE for the other guy and ALL THE WHITE PEOPLE VOTED

JSO made that point 8 years ago

Trump is no fiscal conservative, and any libertarian worth his salt would fit that bill. Anyway, we'll just see how it goes.

At it's core, the Conk Party is more populist than most believe (kalms head is getting ready to explode). Both parties have been held back by it's elitist establishment. The Conks started to purge the establishment in the primary, and completed the job last night. Now, the Donks are on deck. Will they step up to the plate? :suspicious:

:dunce:

Trump got 8% of Black votes and 29%+ of Latino votes...34% in Florida. 8% in PA probably put Trump over the top there...and the 34% in FL helped win that state.

I actually agree from a voter standpoint. Last night proved that.

But from a policy standpoint it's a WAY different story. And that's the case with both parties.

Hey SCBH. The Tampa area was the difference in Florida. :notworthy: :notworthy:
Go out and buy everyone drinks there tonight.
You can use JSO's credit card.

I see
Yeah... I'm going to go with
A record number of Americans voted in this election
and the HUGE white voter turnout is what made this happen

We'll get the numbers by the end of the month and we'll see... WHITE VOTES MATTER
Ask JSO he announced this 8 years ago - if white people voted conservatives would never lose

IMO, I think a large majority of people want a strong economy. I also think there is a majority when it comes to many social issues. But the economy hits home stronger than anything. And that is how Trump got in despite a complete lack of public service experience.

A friend of mine is the Republican Party chairman for Pinellas County. Pretty sure he's buying.

I voted for Johnson though, so I'm probably not on the happy hour invite list. :)

Hold the boat!!! So you're saying a majority of people want a strong economy??? Shut the front door!!!

But yes...this was indeed a rejection of the status quo. And Hillary is horrible candidate and dishonest.

The voter standpoint is where you have to start, and is the hardest part.

This. Common sense is the conks best friend for this incoming administration, let's hope they finally learn how to use it.

IN FL at least, probably thanks to the Cubans, who usually break GOP.
