$125 Billion Wasted

Pentagon buries evidence of $125 billion in bureaucratic waste
The Pentagon has buried an internal study that exposed $125 billion in administrative waste in its business operations amid fears Congress would use the findings as an excuse to slash the defense budget, according to interviews and confidential memos obtained by The Washington Post.
Pentagon leaders had requested the study to help make their enormous back-office bureaucracy more efficient and reinvest any savings in combat power. But after the project documented far more wasteful spending than expected, senior defense officials moved swiftly to kill it by discrediting and suppressing the results.
The report, issued in January 2015, identified “a clear path” for the Defense Department to save $125 billion over five years. The plan would not have required layoffs of civil servants or reductions in military personnel. Instead, it would have streamlined the bureaucracy through attrition and early retirements, curtailed high-priced contractors and made better use of information technology.
The study was produced last year by the Defense Business Board, a federal advisory panel of corporate executives, and consultants from McKinsey and Company. Based on reams of personnel and cost data, their report revealed for the first time that the Pentagon was spending almost a quarter of its $580 billion budget on overhead and core business operations such as accounting, human resources, logistics and property management.

The sad part is, the topic at hand is only the bureacratic waste. That's only $125B.
The waste in planes, subs, ships, weapons systems, unneeded bases in CONUS and abroad, etc is in the trillions and trillions.

Bullshit! The most I've ever blown with a single signature was $2B. I barely matter.

This is an easy win served on a silver platter for Trump. All Trump has to do is enact the recommendations made in the report (retirements and attrition and less consultants). Easy win. Drain the swamp or something like that.

The stories I can tell about waste in government would blow your mind. I'd rather not spill them here in a preserved format.

Just an FYI for future reference, a private server in your bathroom is the way to go. Don't have to worry about preservation at all...or so I'm told.

A friend of mine is in procurement...another sells his time, design skills and expertise to the military.
Speaking of gubmint military contracts, that War Dogs movie was pretty entertaining.

I used to handle the logistics for this
For those of that wouldn't know, that's a Combat Operation Center...In Arizona. This was set up for years and only used for 1 week a year. But it was set up, all those GETTS were ran once a week, they were updated... The cost to upkeep that one system was disgusting.

The Marine Direct Air Support Center (DASC), which I was the OIC for when I was in, went to a new modular setup very similar to that but on a smaller scale around 1998. Ours ran off two generators and two comms HMMWVs. We had contractors observing and assisting us with everything for about a year until we were ready to run with it by ourselves. It paid serious dividends in the 03 Iraq invasion, as the DASC forward and DASC main could quickly leapfrog with the Regimental COC.
I have no idea what all that shit cost, and I didn't care because I wasn't a civilian contracting weenie then. All I know is that it worked. I forget the name of the computer system they also stood up at the same time, but it was awesome, showing friend/foe unit positions and strengths in near real-time. Saved a ton of grease pencil mapping and lag time in updating.

If we are going to waste money its better to waste it on the military than people that dont work or other social programs.
