Once you and the other gubmint leeches start getting paid the honest measure of your worth this country will be a lot better place to live. :coffee:

I'm not worried a bit.

My kids are in public school right now.

Consular officers are self funded (through consular fees) and we're not the traditional "cookie pusher" pinstriped diplomats that the Congressional conks hate.

My bigger concern is that they might eventually take us away from the State Department (not the end of the world) and send us to DHS (the end of the world).

BTW I test drove the ludicrous speed version of the Tesla S last week. I'm waiting for the new model that us middle class pogues can afford

Re: Hard times a comin' for gubmint workers

This news went around the office last week via email. I replied all, "make morale great again." That got some chuckles.

I see the procedural move as establishing a way to cut certain programs. Those employees would then essentially be RIF'ed elsewhere. There are long-established rules in place for that. That wouldn't hurt folks in places like DC too badly, because they could simply move down the street to another agency, unless their career is such a niche that it doesn't translate elsewhere. It would indeed suck for people with no other office nearby to move to. I am fortunate in that regard, because every agency has a procurement function.

I think the R's will run into legal trouble if they try to take away established employee protections. I think this is mostly going to be a drill about rewriting the rules for new hires. This happened in the late 80s when FERS replaced CSRS. Legacy employees' benefits were not affected. However...

An almost certainty is that they will take away the government contribution to pension in this latest go-round, which will equate to about an effective 5% pay cut for most federal employees. They tried to do that a few years back during the budget showdowns, but it didn't go through. This time it very well might.

There will also undoubtedly be a hiring freeze. Agencies were advertising like crazy in Nov and Dec trying to fill every vacancy in anticipation of this. I don't have a lot of heartburn with shrinking agencies through natural attrition. People find a way to adapt.

No- they're coming out with a new model that starts in the 30s. It was going to be called the "X", but then they realized the model lineup would be "S-E-X"

LBGTQIA.

For those not up to the scorecard:

Lesbian, Bi, Gay, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual.

The Asexual part of that group is offended by your thoughts.

They need to add to that alphabet soup:

M - multiple sexualities for the really confused person
Ao - anal only...not to be associated with gay because a hetero might simply be attracted to any ass
H - head lovers
An - people who are into to animal sex (it is not a choice, right)
V - virgins for life...not to be confused with Asexual people
Wd - Whiskey dick folks
JMU - speaks for itself
These signatures have a 500 character limit?

What if I have more personalities than that?

This guy was on Rogan's podcast a short while ago. He's one of the brightest conservative minds I've ever listened to and if you want to talk about the authoritarian side of the left, he's a great reference. There is something like 70 different gender pronouns in Canada which you can get in trouble for not observing now...

Fucking liberals... :ohno:
A Canadian university professor ignited controversy by refusing to use gender-neutral pronouns. Is he a villain or a victim?
University of Toronto psychology professor Jordan Peterson had enough of what he saw as a campus culture where "social justice warrior, left-wing radical political activists" ran rampant.
In September he released a video lecture series taking aim at political correctness.
He zeroed in on Canadian human rights legislation that prohibits discrimination based on gender identity or expression.
Dr Peterson was especially frustrated with being asked to use alternative pronouns as requested by trans students or staff, like the singular 'they' or 'ze' and 'zir', used by some as alternatives to 'she' or 'he'.
In his opposition, he set off a political and cultural firestorm that shows no signs of abating.
At a free speech rally mid-October, he was drowned out by a white noise machine. Pushing and shoving broke out in the crowd.
He says the lock on his office door was glued shut.
At the same time, the University of Toronto said it had received complaints of threats against trans people on campus.
His employers have warned that, while they support his right to academic freedom and free speech, he could run afoul of the Ontario Human Rights code and his faculty responsibilities should he refuse to use alternative pronouns when requested.
They also said they have received complaints from students and faculty that his comments are "unacceptable, emotionally disturbing and painful" and have urged him to stop repeating them.
The university is also trying to organise a "civil and respectful" debate, which would include Dr Peterson, to discuss gender provisions in federal and provincial human rights legislation.
Either way, Dr Peterson is not backing down.

Canadian legislators are currently looking at a new law that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity
"I've studied authoritarianism for a very long time - for 40 years - and they're started by people's attempts to control the ideological and linguistic territory," he told the BBC.
"There's no way I'm going to use words made up by people who are doing that - not a chance."
Dr Peterson is concerned proposed federal human rights legislation "will elevate into hate speech" his refusal to use alternative pronouns.
Legal experts disagree.
