Obama commutes Chelsea Manning's sentence.

Now, curious to see if Assange agrees to be extradited.

Yep, just like Brady and Belicheat are too white for you to care about them breaking the rules.

Assange said if Manning was pardoned, he'd come out of the embassy...that didn't happen, so I doubt he'll come out...

Leonard Peltier should be pardoned, don't think he shot the agents.

Bill Cosby
Has Cosby been charged with any federal crimes or are they all state allegations? President can only pardon/grant clemency for federal crimes

He said if he granted him clemency - not pardon.

Pardoning him AND commuting his sentence are BOTH granting him clemency. :coffee:

And, yes... of course he is not going to leave the embassy. He was just trolling on Twitter with no intention of actually backing any of it up. Kinda like someone else... ;)

Edit:

Nevermind. He may actually do it (still doubt it, though.

There are provisions for blanket pardons where a conviction or even a formal charge are not necessary.

Via ABC:
President Barack Obama has granted clemency to Oscar Lopez-Rivera who has been in federal prison since 1981.
Lopez-Rivera grew up in Chicago and was convicted of seditious conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. government when he was a member of the Puerto Rican independence group FALN.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama shortened the sentences of 209
prisoners and pardoned 64 individuals on Tuesday, the White House said.

With his term in office set to end on Friday, Obama has now commuted the
sentences of 1,385 people and granted a total of 212 pardons.

The military was being about the prosecution of the war and civilian death totals. She exposed that albeit while breaking the law, owned it, apologized and did 7 years including solitary.

Let's be honest, the main reason for the commutation of the sentence was the gender switch and the military's refusal to house her in a prison according to her new gender.

As for the crime, hey, once you're in the military there's a chain of command to follow to expose what had to be exposed here. There were plenty of ways to bring to light the military's faults without going so far outside the command that going to WikiLeaks represented. And you're ignoring that with all that she stole and gave to WikiLeaks, only about 1% of it dealt with the military's misdeeds.

And she served enough time IMO.

You mean more of a shitstorm than the 8 years of obvious hostility to street cops?

Count me as cynical, but I don't think that's ever been a deterrent for this administration.

BTW I could be wrong, but does anyone want to avatar bet me on this pardon/commutation?

Keep in mind that Van Jones is a hardcore Mumia supporter, as is Obama's original nominee to DOJ, Debo Adegbile.
