Republicare... (updates and observations)
The wonderful new healthcare bill is on display
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... e-bill-no/
I'm presently on the ACA (Obama Care) and am curious to discover the differences

I'll get a tax credit of $4,000 annually which will cover about 60% of the most basic basic package
It seems to rely a lot on insurance companies creating a sign up process
Which I guess was the biggest Obama Care issues - you had to sign up and go through the web portal
The good news:
Eventually I'll be measured by an insurer as excellent condition
and that will "supposedly" help lower my rates come 2020

Presently with Obama Care nobody gets "examined" before the insurer provides a package and price
With Republicare
The insurer will (at some point in the future) get to "check the goods" and determine the risk and provide a price
Ultimately I'll be better off in that scenario
Because I won't be paying for everybody else's adult onset diabetes

Rightie Soylent Green-Care™ has less chance of survival than this 3rd-stage mucinous carcinoma, excised thanks to ObamaCare along with a foot or so of my colon and 2 dozen lymph nodes (6 were cancerous) ...

Feel like eating that greasy burger, now?
The $4,000 tax credit is a bad joke, not exceeding the stupidity of high-risk pools and cross state-line networks that didn't even make it into the legislation (yet).
Thanks to President Obama, my med team and the occasionally dubious BCBS, my short-term prognosis is excellent, my CT last week was clear, and I have been designated a cancer survivor.
I'm your worst nightmare, Righties. ObamaCare saved my life.

Re: Republicare... (updates and observations)
The cost issues are the least of the problems with the ACA.
Once it has had about 10 years to metastasize it will become a really expensive version of what we see in the U.K., and progressives will hate it because rich folks will just pay their penalties and go pay cash to their personal doctors and surgeons (the really good ones will not participate in the ACA)
Go to the U.K. and see if you can get the best oncologist there to take out your tumor and see how that works out for you
The good things about the ACA (and there are some) will slowly gonaway as markets adjust to the new paradigm

Just a side note - read a real good book lately, by Henry Marsh, a neurosurgeon in the UK (book was entitled "Do No Harm"). Interesting take from that book, which was really him telling fascinating stories from his career as a neurosurgeon, was 1) the successful doctor's in the UK, when they need treatment, always go outside of the NIH to get it 2) There's an amazing amount of waiting in the UK just for bed space - if there isn't a bed, you don't get operated on that day, try again in a couple of weeks and 3) the author was particularly complimentary of American doctors, especially surgeons. For a guy who worked in the system, he didn't have a great affinity for it.CID1990 wrote:The cost issues are the least of the problems with the ACA.

Local doc moved here from Canada to practice medicine. Basically said the same things. He said the only good thing was he only needed one secretary/receptionist because there was a lot less paperwork. He told stories about people intentionally getting in accidents because that moved them to the front of the line.GannonFan wrote:Just a side note - read a real good book lately, by Henry Marsh, a neurosurgeon in the UK (book was entitled "Do No Harm"). I think it's safe to say that Trump has no clue about it. I was watching a telecast of him sitting next to Steve Scalise describing it yesterday or maybe the day before. The look on his face was priceless. He just knows that he's ostensibly a Republican and the Republicans said "Obamacare" is bad and that they're going to replace it.
