Well, Bernie should poll well, he's never been in a position to have to be accountable for anything. He's been an outsider in Congress since he got there, he ran as an outsider in the election the Dems rigged against him this past year, and he continues to be that guy now. He's not really a "get in there and solve" stuff kind of politician, so he's never going to run up against reality in terms of what can and can't be done. He's like a message board type politician - sounds great, but we'll never know if any of it works because he's so disconnected from the reality of it.

Populism is popular on both sides of the aisle.

Dems largely rejected Bernie's version of economic populism. I'd like to see conservative voters do that, but Hillary Clinton's presence in the election contributed to Trump's win just as much as any of the other factors.

Personally, I think Bernie's popularity right now is based more in the idea that had he won the Dem nomination, he probably would have won the general. I know that I would not have been so squarely in the Gary Johnson camp if Bernie had been the Dem nominee. Maybe I could have voted for him but if he hit hard on the free college thing it would likely have been a deal breaker for me. That said, none of his more wacky proposals would have made it through Congress, and we'd almost certainly be pulling back in the Middle East. It also helps that Bernie is a 2nd Amendment guy. Given the Congressional landscape, Bernie and Johnson would have been the two least dangerous candidates.

In other news of Dems doing the same thing over and over, I see Chelsea is making lots of noise to show she'd be a good politician in spite of her being less experienced than me. Over under on her starting to adopt some of Bernie's platform?

Had Trump run against Biden, it wouldn't have even been close.

I think that if each Party would have selected the candidate that would do best in a General election we would've had Sanders vs. Kasich and Sanders would've won. I tihnk Sanders would've blown Trump or C ruz out. I think Rubio would've been reasonably competitive against him. Kasich would've been a close call who maybe could've beaten Sanders, I think (though my bet would be Sanders). But I think both Parties pretty much tried to commit suicide and the Democrats succeeded.

Sanders would have brought out the donk base & hard left better than Kasich would have brought out the conk base & hard right. But Kasich, coming across as the saner pick, would have done better with the indys & moderates Yes the RCP averages in 2016, mid April-beginning of May, around 6-7 months before the election, had Sanders +3.3, but if they had both won the general, Sanders after months of months side by side comparison to Kasich would have come off as a little too nutty, crazy uncle like. Remember, Clinton was up on Trump by at least what Sanders was up on Kasich April-May 2016..Sanders/Kasich would have likely been close, but I think Kasich would have won...

I thought your point was that the GOP succeeded.
