it was a given that he was going to get his Supreme Court nominee through. That was never in doubt because the Republicans in the Senate said from the beginning that they were going to change the rules if necessary.

But, while I do think the Syria strike will probably help his approval ratings, he has not "taken care" of Syria. And he does not own Washington.

Yes Reid changed some rules then McConnell changed a rule. All I'm saying is that there was no doubt that the Supreme Court nominee was going to be confirmed because the Republicans control the Senate and they made it clear they were going to change the rule if necessary.

I have no strong feelings on changing the rules on cloture per se. Frankly what I wish is that there was a Constitutional provision requiring 2/3 super majorities in both houses of Congress to do anything. Make a law. Confirm a nominee. Adopt a budget. Anything. I think we'd have a better country right now if that had always been the case. That way nothing would happen unless there was broad societal consensus that it should happen.

It's so polarized now, the only way we would get anything done is with term limits so the politicians don't have as much to lose; they know they are done in 6 years, say.
