I'm thinking Someone Holier should cover it.bandl wrote:Just MrT and GATWCAA Flagship wrote: Sweet. How many virgins are needed?

It's GPS guided, but I agree that a bunker buster munition might be a better choice. The MOAB might create some nice over-pressure and have some subterranean effects, but it's not going to be as good as something with a delay on the fuse.CitadelGrad wrote:Dropping this bomb was just a way to grab headlines. MOAB is not guided. You just kick it out of the back of a plane and let it free fall. Not exactly the best way to attack an underground target.
Don't know if it is considered a daisy cutter, but it can't be the same bomb because this was the first time it was used.Rob Iola wrote:Daisy cutter?

You must be thinking of something different. This bomb is used for exactly this purpose and it's guided. The military might know what they are doing here.. The change in air pressure, as a result of the in air explosions, collapses and weakens buildings, caves, tunnels...CitadelGrad wrote:Dropping this bomb was just a way to grab headlines. Exactly. This type of bombs is use to soften an area prior to some other type of deployment.CID1990 wrote:It us essentially the same bomb, just newerSeattleGriz wrote: Don't know if it is considered a daisy cutter, but it can't be the same bomb because this was the first time it was used.
The daisy cutter was developed during Vietnam- you dropped it on top of one of those limestone mountains and it would chop the peak off, leaving a flat surface that could then be used as a LZ or a fire base.

The impression I'm getting is that we just lost a Green Beret to a bunch of camel jockeys hiding in and popping out of a tunnel complex and we just solved that problem. The MOAB has already been tested over a decade ago.JohnStOnge wrote:BTW the impression I'm getting is that this was basically an experiment.
I doubt that we "solved that problem" entirely. Yes I know the weapon has been tested. But this was the first "real world" test. I am basing my opinion somewhat on watching some ex generals on TV talking about it and, unfortunately, I can't name any of them. But that's why I developed the impression that there was an experimental element to this. This was to some extent, I think, trying something out in a real situation.93henfan wrote:The impression I'm getting is that we just lost a Green Beret to a bunch of camel jockeys hiding in and popping out of a tunnel complex and we just solved that problem.
