These articles are all from last year's harvest. Harvest time is just now (at least here in central Illinois). I suspect it will be similar this year. But, the bailouts were for last year's crop.

dback posted the reuters article a year ago and I posted about what bullshit it was back then. And in general these articles all are based on that reuters article. This is what happens when reporters and forum posters write about shit they have no fucking clue about. No farmer is going to plow crop under without receiving some kind of compensation for it.

If they can't sell it and can't store it, what are they going to do with it?

If they're able to sell and all is hunky dory, what are the "security" essential reasons for bailing them out?

You just said bailouts arent a strategic industry

But agriculture most certainly is a strategic induatry

Im not sure what that word salad was... it doesnt even qualify as your usual fallacious logic. Maybe a new kind of autistic straw man?

First of all they shouldn't be bailed out. We subsidize them enough already.

Any farmer that doesn't have a big chunk of their grain pre-sold should be allowed to go broke because they shouldn't be farming anyway. There is enough storage. In the fall storage can run tight because elevators get a rush of grain and they can't ship it back out fast enough. So sometimes grain gets piled on the ground. But that is generally short term until the rail shipments get caught up and they get rid of it fairly quickly or they cover it with tarps. There might be a small amount of spoilage but it is minimal. And there is somebody who will buy it. Maybe not at the price you want but there is somebody that will buy it. If you had a choice of getting something or nothing what would you do?

I’ve always enjoyed Chris Wallace.. he’s from another era where journalism was more respected (and deserved that respect)

In a way, I’m glad he’s at FOX but it hurts him in terms of his legacy and reputation as a legitimate journalist

We lease our farmland to one of my wife's uncles and the other day he calls us and says he found some stored durum and sold it for us.

Wasn't ours! Stupid shit sold some of his neighbors durum he was letting store in our extra bins.

Hope he got the target price the neighbor wanted.

This. I don't think many people realize how few large corporations control the agriculture industry.
