Acculturate. I swear we’re making up words in this country now.

I don’t know a single Christian (and I know a shitload of them) who looks at Joel Osteen or Pat Robertson as their saviors.

And literally NONE of those “aspects of America…” are embedded in true Christianity.

What's interesting is lumping capitalism in with chauvinism, violence and bigotry. It's part of a concerted campaign to demonize capitalism.

Who is doing this and why are they doing it? Can someone explain that to me in a way that doesn't make me suspicious of the fools who think that socialism/marxism will work this time?

A Chris Hedges meme? Of course: he checks every far-left box there is. Good buddies with Noam Chomsky and Dan Ellsberg.

The ones that I know equate them to being a con-artist. And I know some pretty devout Christians.

Or edited and then screenshot before their mods look over the changes.

My comment is tongue in cheek over the fact that Wikipedia's Moderators have been shown to care less about the facts, then slanting towards the moderators beliefs. And in some cases being paid to make certain edits.

It is like any other online repository. Question and verify through other sources of information.

Exactly. It's a meme so it's funny but too many gullible fools take these things seriously. Getting your information from Wiki is about as bad as getting it from Twitter.

Well for starters…this is nothing new for Hedges. He has been preaching the socialist Jesus concept for a long time. It has merit.

Second, it’s easy to dismiss the televangelists but they ARE somewhat popular and their ideology has been on the front lines of our culture wars for (also) a long time.

Third, you have sound reasons for being concerned about the slippery slope of leftists politics. I’ve stared down that abyss and trust me…it’s worse than you might think. Of course none of those things (chauvinism, violence, etc) are unique to capitalism. But a decent case can be made that peak capitalism brings them out more.

Socialists: be careful what you wish for.

Capitalists: be careful what you wish for.

The end.

So make the case.

My experience is that chauvinism and bigotry are a bigger problem in China then they are here. I'm pretty sure that violence is as well but I didn't get to see that first hand. There it's state-sponsored and a matter of sovereignty so they believe it's justified. I'm confident that the same was true in the Soviet Union.

Chauvinism, violence and bigotry are cultural, not economic.

Fair points. You could also make the case that both have been reduced in our lifetimes.

The irony of that is that Republicans were bitching in 2020 about people voting after the polls closed...people that had been in line for hours. Trump mostly but he is the head of the Party. And now they've created a law to criminalize giving those people to have water (it's nuanced)

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2 ... ways-vote/
SB 202 makes it a crime for people — and not just people from political organizations — to hand out food or bottles of water within 150 feet of a polling place or 25 feet of any voter standing in line.

The only kernel of truth is that the law has a sentence which allows poll workers to make available "self-service water from an unattended receptacle to an elector waiting in line to vote." But just because poll workers can make self-service water available, doesn’t mean they are required to come up with a way to make water accessible to voters in every line at every polling site.

I'm fine with early voting, especially in densely populated areas. All voters should have a REAL ID. My license gets scanned before I'm permitted to vote and i've actually be denied b/c I showed up at the wrong place, not knowing the precincts changed. I hadn't heard of ballot harvesting before 2020 and it sounds like it's rife with risk and just isn't worth the headache. Mail in voting is ok but there should be better controls over it.

I'm also in favor of establishing voter apps. The technology exists to scan IDs and ask verifying questions to verify Identity. The security posture exists already and it only has to be on for less than 1 day (I would only want it to be used on election day, no early voting with it.)
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
