My organic chem professor wrote the book with his wife. It was amazing. Guy practically poured the information into your head.

His dad was a U of Montana head coach.
I had one professor that used a book that he/she/it wrote. Joong Fang. Philosophy.
First day of class he announced that the course has only two tests - midterm and final, and the midterm doesn't count.
If you come to class, you get C. If you do OK on final, you get B. If you do great on final, you get A.

This was the class that overlooked the strip bars across the street from campus. While wondering how much money I spent in each one, I began making a list of all the bars that I had at least 1 beer in. By the third week, I compiled around 80. I kept count and celebrated hard at #100 in Fredericksburg, VA. I kept it going and hit #200 in Fort Lauderdale. I gave up after that.

 There were two within walking distance of campus (one directly across the street in the middle of the bars/stores/etc.) I only went in one of them and that was only once. As a pledge I had to get an "autograph" from two dancers.
That opened the flood gates for the next 30 years. :ohno: :ohno:

Why can't the meme be saying that there was an overshoot to the downside?

I think it was the Dalai Lama who once said Gunga Lagunga.

Do you have any stats on how many of the 90% rely on the performance of the stock market for their retirement? I would think that's important to know.

Not enough people participate in the market. They don't understand it so they avoid it. The sad thing is that it's never been easier to dip your feet in with all of the retirement date oriented funds.

Does the Average American Have a 401(k)?
All that said, not everyone who's offered an employer-sponsored plan actually takes advantage of it. Of those 79% of Americans who get the choice to fund a 401(k), only 41% opt to participate. As such, just 32% of the total workforce is saving in a 401(k).
It is getting better though. Americans own more stock than ever
More Americans than ever are invested in the stock market. Just 30 years ago only about 30% of Americans owned any form of stock—now more than 50% do.
Bernie types don't like 401(k)'s and other defined contribution plans because they involve risk. They want the government (or at least employers) to assume the risk with defined benefit plans.

Neither. Private HS. Was technically in Spotsylvania County. When my family moved there moved in the late 70s, you had only 4 high schools between Fredericksburg and the 3 surrounding counties, which each had 1. Now you have 12 (5 in Spotsylvania), and over half are relatively big high schools (2k ballpark).

Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania Co was a HS football hotbed back in the 80s-90s. When I was in HS all then 3 county HS were powers- Spotsy won a state title, Courtland lost a state title game & a semis, Chancellor lost in a couple semis..
-Courtland won 4 state titles in the 80s (3 AA and a AAA Div 5).
-Spotsylvania won 3 AA, Div 4 state titles in the 90s.
-James Monroe went to 7 title games, won 4 AA, Div 3 title games 80s-2000s'.

Don't know about any others. Haven't paid attention in about 20 years.
