Redeemable Deplorables

Spot fucking on.

I had forgotten about Grimm and Dejarlais.
Bottom line, the Democratic Party sucks. JSO only sees the demise of the Republicans. I'm hoping for the demise of both.
You can't just dismiss people as lost, even bad or misguided people. Unless every great thinker from Christ to Tolstoy to Gandhi to Dr. King is wrong, it's especially those people you have to keep believing in, and trying to reach.
The Democrats have forgotten this. While it may not be the case with Quist, who seems to have run a decent campaign, the Democrats in general have lost the ability (and the inclination) to reach out to the entire population.
They're continuing, if not worsening, last year's mistake of running almost exclusively on Trump/Republican negatives. The Correct the Record types who police the Internet on the party's behalf are relentless on that score, seeming to spend most of their time denouncing people for their wrong opinions or party disloyalty. They don't seem to have anything to say to voters in flyover country, except to point out that they're (at best) dupes for falling for Republican rhetoric.
But "Republicans are bad" isn't a message or a plan, which is why the Democrats have managed the near impossible: losing ground overall during the singular catastrophe of the Trump presidency.
The party doesn't see that the largest group of potential swing voters out there doesn't need to be talked out of voting Republican. It needs to be talked out of not voting at all. The recent polls bear this out, showing that the people who have been turned off to the Democrats in recent months now say that in a do-over, they would vote for third parties or not at all.

This is true
But the GOP is actually going to have to look to candidates who aren't buffoons and assholes or we are just going to swing back even harder to the left.
A Trump opens the door for all kinds of bad candidates

Don't forget 93hen!
Great point by Bullock. That's exactly what Bernie has done his entire career. It's what his team suggested to Hillary's campaign.

You could always suggest a time and place but then you'd get pulled over 3 times on the way and he'd get tired of waiting around for you.

Only thing is the Democrats have the demographic evolution we've discussed many times going for them. It remains true that unless something changes significantly with respect to the way non-Whites vote the Democrats will inevitably achieve overwhelming dominance. Our system and Republican gerrymandering will slow it downs some. But unless the non White voting pattern changes it will come; and I don't see anything to indicate non White voting patterns are going to change.
The other thing is that, at least with respect to the last Presidential election, the Democrats just had a bad candidate. I mean, think about it. They had a candidate that was under FBI investigation through much of the campaign then who had that issue resurrected 10 days before election day. I won't substantiate again unless asked but I think there is high confidence that if Obama could've run again he'd be a third term President right now. I also don't think it'd have been close. My guess is he'd have beaten Trump at least as badly as he beat Romney.

Whoever Rick Wilson, if he actually said that, well then he is an idiot. A grab & non existent body slam (probably a shove) doesn't equate to someone getting their head bashed in with a tire iron. Misdemeanor assault on a reporter who came into someones personal space isn't the same as chasing after a reporter and bashing his head in with a tire iron, hospitalizing if not killing him.

So you're saying that would be an inappropriate response?

Almost all Hannity's work is done in studio. So he would have to break into the FNC studio to come after Hannity or try to ambush him somewhere in public so he could bash his head in with a tire iron. It was an

comparison to the Gianforte/Guardian reporter incident.

You think someone being grabbed by the throat, thrown to the ground and then punched is a shove? How fucking stupid are you? Seriously, because that's pretty fucking stupid.
