With the impending DPRK long range rocket launch, Japan is apparently poised to shoot it down. We too are moving destroyers and missile boats into position under certain possible trajectories which apparently will necessitate a shoot down attempt.

Seems like the potential for a disaster over and above the usual rhetoric is building as the days go by.

It is no secret those people do not like each other even if they do all buy the same kind of flip flops and sunglasses. 8-)

Why is everybody raising a stink about this? I would think everybody should know by now that the rocket will more than likely blow up on the launch pad.

or sizzle out in the pacific :D and then piss of the Japanese because it did not go far enough into the pacific.

At least they didn't do what Iran did and photoshop pictures of their missle and make it look like 5 going off instead of 3.

Or better yet, have it launch and when it is over Japan have it do a nose dive and crash land on the Island....Oh the drama...I can see it now.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- North Korea has begun fueling its long-range missile, according to a senior U.S. military official.

The fueling signals that the country could be in the final stages of what North Korea has said will be the launch of a satellite into space as early as this weekend, the senior U.S. military official said Wednesday.

Other U.S. military officials said the top portion of the missile was put on very recently, but satellite imagery shows a shroud over the stage preventing a direct view of what it looks like.

The officials said the satellite payload appears to have a "bulbous" cover, which could indicate that there is a satellite loaded on it. Such a cover protects a satellite from damage in flight.

Although the sources did not know for sure what the payload is, they said there is no reason to doubt that it is a satellite, as indicated by North Korea.

Pyongyang has said it will launch the missile between April 4 and April 8. A launch would violate a 2006 United Nations Security Council resolution banning the reclusive state from launching ballistic missiles.

Pentagon officials worry less about the payload and more about the launch itself, saying that any kind of launch will give the North Koreans valuable information about improving their ballistic missile program.

The United States believes that the North Koreans have the technology to hit Alaska or Hawaii with a ballistic missile and that the country is working on advancing that technology so it could hit the west coast of the United States.

as a guy with two buddies living in Japan... :-/

can't we just let Japan be like Israel? bomb the missile site and then thump their chests to a tinpot dictator and say "what the fvck you gonna do?"

sometimes bravado in the face suicidal stupidity will cause the morons to back down.

You may be right, but looked what happened last time Japan did a preemptive strike.

Plus, isn't their constitution written in a way where it would be illegal?

I think so... the JDF would seem perfectly tailored to do this though...

Yuppers. They sent a few troops to Iraq, but they weren't allowed to fire unless fired upon. :?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The State Department on Thursday sent a blunt, public message to North Korea: Don't launch your missile.

Replicas of South and North Korean missiles are displayed at the Korea War Memorial in Seoul.

"We don't want to see this launch go forward," State Department spokesman Robert Wood said.

At the same time, the United States is carefully avoiding any suggestion that it would try to shoot down the missile and is being vague about what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others have said would be the "consequences" if it is launched.

The United States continues to signal that regardless of what happens in the next several days -- the launch window announced by the North Koreans -- the goal is to resume the six-party talks over how to dismantle and eventually erase North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

Obviously the outcome would be different, but don't you think that just maybe they might have an aversion to hostilies in Japan?
