Let's add Georgia to NATO!

So a few years back we were playing footsie with Georgia for NATO membership
In response, Russia destabilized the country, and then chomped off a chunk of the country in South Ossetia

Georgia has a military of 37,000. Aside from being the birthplace of Josef Stalin (and having a large ethnic Russian minority that will surely "ask" Putin for "protection"), it holds little strategic value except as a buffer state between the West and Russia.
Guess who has been more historically in need of buffer states in that region?
Hint: not NATO
