Canada demands end to "Right-to-Work" states in U.S.

Canadian negotiators are demanding the United States roll back so-called "right to work" laws – accused of gutting unions in some U.S. states by starving them of money – as part of the renegotiation of the North American free-trade agreement. The request is part of a push by Ottawa to get the U.S. and Mexico to adopt higher labour standards under the deal.

The Canucks are demanding that federal law be amended outlawing states from adopting right-to-work laws...28 states current have them on the books...

Canada is also demanding that the U.S. give workers one year of paid family leave...

How in the holy hell do they think they're going to get those wishes? This is our fucking country, not Southern Canada.

I know. Every time I hear about how nearly every country in Europe provides a minimum of 30 days of PTO to their employees all I can think is "what a bunch of wackos!" :coffee:

We used to demand other nations increase their human rights standards when working out trade deals; I guess now other nations have to ask it of us.

Guess so! Next thing you know, the Canucks will insist that we replace Trump with Trudeau.

So now paid family leave and Right-to-Work are human rights issues? :?

I've earned 21 days after 5 years at my company. Plus I get 52 Friday's off a year, and can work from anywhere in the country, so I'm not complaining.

A very high percentage of union time is devoted to protecting the 2% of the work force who are lazy, obstructionists, druggies, whiners and other who need to be fired. If a person is doing their job properly, they don't need a union. Federal and state laws protect workers from the conditions that existed in the early 1900s.

This ^ I actually agree with...

But I do find it funny
That now America is on the Human Rights Violation watch list of a few countries
BTW: We've earned it

It's much more humanitarian (on the sliding scale) to just control our border

If we're going to be human rights goons anyway then let's at least be cost effective

Salvadorans not being able to get into the US would be only slightly more onerous than. say, East Timoreans not being able to get into Australia

No union protects the lazy and stupid like the police union. I'm surprised to hear that kinda talk from a rugged individual like you. :coffee:

Don't be a drama queen and try to equate every day wage slavery with child slave labor.
