The 1st quote was according to historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, alledgedly told by Johnson to GA Senator Richard Russell.
The 2nd one was according to journalist Ronald Kessler in a book he wrote covering the White House, alledgedly told by Johnson to a couple of unnamed governors on Air Force 1.
So even IF neither were said, there’s the below:
