MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont House committee has taken the next step on legislation that would allow same-sex couples to marry in the state.

The House Judiciary Committee voted eight to two, with one member absent on Tuesday, to approve the bill that would replace civil unions with full marriage for gay and lesbian couples.

Are Birkenstocks required footwear in the VT legislature?

And do they have bowls of fresh granola on the desks?

"Mr Speaker I did not choose to be gay, god made me this way"

Mr Speaker I stand here today for my friends who couldnt be here today, who couldnt be here to see this, because they couldnt take it anymore, they couldnt take it another day, not another minute

Some of these speeches are very touching... I'd love to be able to get a transcript of it.
