Why is it that the crazies shooting up places with innocent people never go after these types?

What was that jury thinking? Sounds like 12 Joe Arpaios.

Ridiculously inept cop. How hard is it to tell the guy to lay face down with his hands locked behind his head then have your partner cuff him while you’re covering?

A member of the dead guy’s family should assassinate that cop.

How hard is it to not show up at a hotel with a pellet gun?

This. It should be punishable by death.

Not hard but I think you're allowed to do that. I don't think it's against the law. Also what if he showed up with a real gun but everything was legal?

Then don't do this:
Daniel Shaver apparently was showing off a pellet gun, and it was visible through the hotel room window.

How dare he! They should have shot him through the window!

It's the system...
or more accurately a "byproduct" of the system

The most qualified people to become Police Officers are rarely interested in being a Police Officer
Instead of it being a position of high honor and an extremely difficult job to get

We've done the exact same thing to the teaching profession in this country

As Pwns says: we get the Government we deserve
and we now get the Police officers we deserve and the Teachers we deserve

Broken systems create broken results

I agree. Don't point guns out windows if you don't want the cops to show up.

But that cop was a dummie.

What kind of teachers?

The one's I know (anecdotal but I do know a quite a few) are highly skilled, highly organized, and would excel in many different fields. Then again, Cheney School District might be an outlier and THE Eastern Washington U is one of the finer directional institutions in this part of the state.

Come to think of it, most of the cops I know are talented as well...

So if you are showing your pellet gun to your friend in the hotel room and somebody sees you doing it through the window you're asking for the police to show up and shoot you?

Agreed.

There are over 1 million local & state LEOs in the US. If say about 90% are ‘good cops’ (not crooked, competent) that would still leave about 100k bad cops out there. The percent could be lower, but I honestly believe though that a overwhelming majority would fall under the good.

Everyone carries a camera (smartphone) with them nowadays in a country of close to 330 million. I’m surprised we don’t see more of these videos..

This^^^

I have a couple facebook friends who are tearing up the internets trying to analyze this guy... how he was fearful, etc

I don't buy that at all. I think this guy was waiting for this "tactical" moment his whole career

And I guarantee you he had supervisors who saw it. This guy would have lasted in my squads only long enough for me to figure him out and then send him indoors or to the warehouse where he would have minimal impact on the public

Fortunately, I think there has already been a sea change in local law enforcement. This guy is an artifact of the way things used to be... a lot of these Tackleberrys are being weeded out at a rate not previously seen

I'm just going with what the article says. It's consistent with the quote I was responding to. The quote from the article is:
Daniel Shaver apparently was showing off a pellet gun, and it was visible through the hotel room window. This promped somebody to call to the hotel front desk, which prompted a call to the police.
You shouldn't have to worry about someone looking through the window of your hotel room, seeing you messing around with a pellet gun, and ending up getting shot by police.

BTW I think the whole paradigm we have with police whereby citizens are compelled to follow their orders or else be physically assaulted is wrong. You should be able to just say, "No I'm not following your orders. I'm a citizen of the United States. I'm presumed innocent until proven guilty. I am entitled to due process. And I'm not going to do what you say."

And they ought to have to find a way to deal with that without getting violent with you. If they do something like shoot you because you don't keep your hands where they say to keep them they ought to be charged with and convicted of murder. Period.
