Could we land on the moon in today's political climate?

Post by Pwns »

Hypothetical question, could we go from primitive, one-man space flights of project Mercury to landing on the moon in a matter of 7 years in today's political climate?

The GOP would never approve the level of spending Kennedy wanted for NASA in those days, and donks would complain it's just a jingoistic dick-waving contest and that will increase tensions with Russia and weaponize space (and that we should be spending the money on LGBTQIA pre-schools).

When did we stop trying to accomplish great things and set goals as a country? :ohno:

Answer is no...but assuming tech would have advanced like it did then a private company would have landed on the moon long ago...much like private firms will lead the way to getting people to Mars.

NASA is dead and it shouldn't be brought back.

Nope. The snowflakes would make a big deal of disturbing moon dust.

I predict that, by the end of Trump’s second term, we’ll have put another team on the Moon. :twocents:

Can't we just tell Trump he already accomplished that
So he can announce it to his fervent supporters
and then add that to the list of personal landmarks

:coffee:

He already fixed the economy single handed
Won the war against ISIS
Solved Healthcare
built the wall

The moon is nothing, just mark it down

we might

But that would be stupid.

(But NASA loves it)

We should be looking at Mars and Titan (Titan especially) - we can sustain ourselves in both places (we cant on the moon) and the science value to going to Titan would be immeasurable

We need to always be advancing those expeditions that will eventually have us living permanently off the earth. Going to the moon does not advance that
