6 months ago I'd have said it's a bad thing. But after he's stuck his head up Trump's ass over the past few weeks I now say "good riddance."

Hopefully Romney will settle on being honest about what Trump is as he was during the campaign.

A career politician retiring is a good thing. Adding Willard to the senate is not a good thing.

Don't think he'd beat Romney, but I'd like to see Evan McMullin in the Senate.

I find your disillusionment with the Republican Party fascinating...
It implies that you believed something that has now been revealed to be untrue

Every one in the Republican Party except a scant few already announced their true feelings about Trump
and they unanimously despise him - just think back to when he was campaigning
and nobody thought he had a chance to win... They felt safe to speak freely of him

and they did... in large numbers
Rest easy knowing they hate him just as much as you do
and they find his bravado followed by blundering and clownishness an embarrassment to the Nation

Everybody has to get in line and like his nuts now (it's the nature of the gig)

It potentially would be a good thing depending on how Willard reacts because Utah does not like Trump. Willard, if elected, could feel free to tell the truth about what a complete atrocity Trump is with absolutely no fear of election consequences. And the Republicans really need somebody like that right now.

Why Hatch ended up publicly sucking Trump's rod is beyond me. But it'd be good if Romney gets in and speaks the truth about Trump as he did during the election season.

That's a factor in why I say they showed they have no integrity. And I did believe something that has been shown to be untrue. I thought that Republicans, unlike Democrats, would reject one of their own if he or she showed himself or herself to be unworthy. You know, I thought that if Republicans had a situation like the Democrats did when Bill Clinton did some of the things he did they would not support the person involved. I thought they had established that during the Nixon situation. I also looked at things like Bob Livingston resigning.

But the Republicans just showed that I was wrong about that. They just showed that they will support flipping Satan if it means they win in the short term.

Another thing is that the fact that Trump got nominated to begin with forced me to see that the Republican base is substantially constituted of hateful, horribly ignorant people who are not good for the United States. It's a bad situation.

I've seen and heard people talking about how Romney would be a foil to Trump - he wouldn't tolerate the drama and shenanigans

But my question to that would be- what, exactly, would Romney be able to do as a Senator?

Not vote to confirm Gorsuch (if he was on the Judiciary committee)?

Vote against the tax bill?

Vote against confirmation of the numerous well qualified appointments to State and DoD?

Because it is becoming obvious that Trump's mouth and Trump's agenda often go in dissimilar directions

So as best as I can tell, the Never Trump crowd likes Romney because he would be a scold but also would generally vote the party line
