As a died in the wool conservative who recently spent 20 years living in AZ, I can say without reservation that Arpaio is a certified fucking lunatic. He should be in jail, not congress. Come to think of it, so should most of the current congressmen.

Arpaio just might win the primary, but the Democrats are hoping he or equally batshit crazy Kelli Ward win, because it would most likely give the Senate Seat to Kirsten Sinema in a landslide.

Martha McSally would give Sinema a tough race.

Arpaio lost his last Sheriff race by over 120K votes, so losing Maricopa County would doom his candidacy - and would fair even worse in Pima County, Yavapai and Coconino. Only counties he would do well in are Mohave, maybe Cochise, Greenlee, La Paz.

Good to hear. Sam and I lived in adjacent suites freshman year. We kept in touch for awhile after college, and I know he served a term or two in Congress. He sent me some legal work once or twice. Good sense of humor, too.

McSally is a Congresscritter - in Gabby Giffords old seat. A narrow GOP district, barely won first term, a little bigger margin second term vs an underfunded unknown. Faces a re-election bid versus a very well funded Democrat this time. Former Fighter Pilot. But she is from Rhode Island, and you know how untrustworthy small state people are.

She is crazy far right, but puts on a reasonable face (ie not frothing at the mouth like Ward)
