Turning off GPS

The Air Force is “turning off” GPS over a huge training area in Nevada and Utah for a big Red Flag exercise...
The U.S. military is worryingly dependent on GPS. Our global positioning satellites tell planes where they are, provide targeting info for smart weapons, and support communication and navigation systems. But in a war with a tech-advanced adversary—think China, Russia, or Iran—GPS could become a big liability because it could be jammed, spoofed, or outright destroyed.
https://www.popularmechanics.com/milita ... -red-flag/

Red Flag is a regular exercise that includes Allies...this exercise has British and Australian forces, all staging out of Nellis AFB outside Las Vegas...

Navigation, smart bombs, and a whole myriad of other equipment is GPS oriented...and it is pretty well known that the Chinese military has done extensive work on how to block or even take down GPS...
The blackout won't be quite as precise as America's precision fighters, though. GPS could be knocked out for adjacent airspace as well, potentially disrupting airliners and private planes in portions of Nevada, California, Arizona, and Utah. Affected civilian aircraft will have to turn to other onboard radio or inertial navigation system (INS) or rely on air traffic control radar vectors.

This isn't the Air Force's first self-imposed blackout, having previously turned off GPS during Red Flag exercises in Alaska. The Air Force tells Popular Mechanics that there will be "little to no effect" for civilian aircraft. And yet the fact that there could be a disruption of civil GPS service in the continental U.S. shows the increasing importance of training for a GPS-less scenario.
The Air Force won’t reveal how they will blackout the play area...

Well overdue for this kind of gaming.

Congress is also well overdue for an infrastructure project geared towards grid security

The Air Force guys at Red Flag laughed at us (the Marine Corps) when we showed up with laminate boards and grease pencils and mentioned that we do not use radar to control our aircraft in close airspace, but rely on carefully chosen control points and time and altitude separation.

I don't think they're laughing now.

Btw, the substitute for GPS is either men on the ground or a very savvy FAC(A).

We need a force field that will bounce away a large meteor.

And a better perforator for toilet paper. I hate when I don't get a perfect edge during tear-off.

I'm a paper over the top guy (the only correct way, of course), and there is still the occasional diagonal tear.

It's unnerving.

Hear my cry.

Better perforation, Charmin Ultra Soft. Do it.

This. Or when the sheets separate. I'm not wiping my ass with 1 ply. I'm not a savage.

If you're an under the bottom guy you're probably a commie. We should get Skelly onto that, because, well, Russia.

In Iowa these are free. Though they are hell on indoor toilets. Which isn't a problem for most of the states residents.

I prefer to use TP that wipes my ass clean rather than smear the shit all over like Charmin does.

We don't have those anymore. They get made into ethanol now.

I can see the wisdom in both.

Col Hogan, please edit the thread title to properly represent this toilet paper/ethanol discussion thread.

Thank you.
