The bill: https://www.scribd.com/document/3724693 ... from_embed

Obviously stands no chance at passage, but it'll be fun to watch.

I skimmed over the document. I had no idea pistol grips and barrel shrouds were such a scourge! Glad we have people in congress taking on an evidence-based approach to this.

Usually we hear from all the Tackleberrys who usually justify, in agonizing detail, the exact reason why all those accessories and features make guns better.. shoot straighter... not overheat at high shooting volumes.... switch from the tactical ready to the engagement stance more quickly...

And then when a shooting happens, they're just decorations that make the guns look scary

Yes, Congress is full of idiots

But the gun folks do the rest of us no favors trying to look like Jesse Ventura in Predator

The democrats under Obama for 2 years 2009-2011 held a near super majority in Congress (and briefly held a super majority when they passed Obamacare). The only time in my lifetime I can remember 1 party having that. They could have passed virtually anything they wanted. Did they even try pass immigration reform? No. Did they even try to pass "gun control" or renew the AWB ban which expired in 04? No. Why?

Seems to me they didn't want to. They only propose it when it has no chance of passing in order to score political points. The donks want that political pinata.

Cool story bro.

Doesn't matter one bit....

Yep. Just look at the spike under Obama.
NCIS background checks under GWB 2001-2008: about 77 million.
NCIS background checks under Obama 2009-2016: about 157 million, more than double.

A lot changes in 7-9 years. Different crop of lawmakers, Millennials and now Gen Z are getting more politically involved, less Boomers today, and just a completely changing landscape on gun control opinions.

To say they didn't do it that many years ago doesn't mean they missed their chance...it just means the opinions were different that many years ago.

Where I live, I still see a lot of Millennial's and Gen Z's that respect guns for what they are. There were taught how to safely handle and store firearms. The news media is pushing that guns kill and make fun of any solution that includes guns, whether it's armed teachers, security etc. Mass killings will continue once the guns are gone.

Recently they have shown teachers that don't want to carry guns saying how wrong that would be. There are teachers that served in the military, that would welcome the idea, and not force those that don't want to carry to be armed.

For now we need a way to defend schools against such attacks. Maybe the NRA pays a good chunk to secure schools, whether it be with or without firearms.

If a community buys into the solution that arming teachers and/or students with firearms will help in the (rare) case of a mass school shooting, they should implement it. It's their schools to do what they want.

But let's be real, most parents, teachers, students (and likely law-enforcement) are completely uncomfortable with wanting firearms in the classrooms. In a way, it sends a ridiculous message to our children that we've failed you so badly, we need everyone armed.

I practice at the NRA HQ and even with their strict standards at the range, I feel uncomfortable with how some handle their firearms. So to arm teachers that don't want anything to do with guns, or having a bunch of teenagers around guns...teenagers that are still developing impulse-control, developing how to properly manage their anger, and are generally careless as a cohort...I find that scarier than a mass shooting once in a while. You might prevent one big incident, but I'd be amazed if you can prevent all the little ones.

I specifically said we should not force teachers to carry if they don't want to. A teacher friend of mine that is ex-military suggested this to me. It would probably be similar to the Sky Marshall's in airplanes. A person that is comfortable around firearms. I wouldn't want anyone uncomfortable with a gun, to be forced to carry. Have there been any little incidents around airports involving a Sky Marshall, I'm not sure and haven't looked into it. Just one suggestion of many that I have heard, on how to protect the schools.

We can secure airports and pro sports stadiums, why not schools?

Because there are real-world threats to the public spaces you've indicated. You have people knowingly trying to inflict harm and tens of thousands of unknown quantities running through them.

The threat to any one particular school is simply a possibility. Unfortunately the possibility becomes a reality at times, but that doesn't make it the reality of life...where there's a real threat at every school.

The Mini-14 would fall under this ban. It specifies That it would outlaw “the “sale, transfer, production, and importation” of semi-automatic rifles and pistols that can hold a detachable magazine, as well as semi-automatic rifles with a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds. “. The only modern weapon allowed would be bolt-action rifles and revolvers... :ohno:
